BlackBerry Tablet Announced as the PlayBook

RIM has announced the BlackBerry Tablet. Its real name is the PlayBook and all the details have been announced along with pictures of the device.

Technical spec wise, the PlayBook will run a Cortex A9 running at 1GHz. The CPU is dual-core. It will have 1GB of RAM. The screen measures 7 inches.

The operating system running on the PlayBook is QNX as expected. As for launch dates, it is expected in the US in the first quarter of 2011 and internationally it will arrive sometime in Q2. Prices have not yet been revealed. [Read more…]

BlackPad OS Details Could be Announced Tonight

Tonight, RIM will be announcing at a developers conference some details about the BlackPad. However, what wont be announced are details about the tablet its self, rather just the inner workings that developers will need to know.

The keynote will be delivered by Mike Lazaridis and although no hardware will specifically be mentioned, we should get some good details about what RIM wants to do with the QNX OS that is expected to be used. If lucky, we might get a glimpse in a photo, but it is unlikely. [Read more…]

F1 2010 Sales Hit Number 1

Reports show that F1 2010 has hit the number one spot this week in terms of sales. It has beaten Halo: Reach as well as Dead Rishing 2 combined.

T-Mobile G2 Lacks Tethering on Launch

T-Mobile has confirmed that tethering on the G2 will not be available in the beginning. T-Mobile also says that they are aware that users want tethering and the company is working on a solution to provide/support users at a later date.

“T-Mobile does not currently support handset tethering or offer a tethering rate plan. Though tethering and Wi-Fi sharing will not be initially supported on the T-Mobile G2, we know that consumers are interested in these features and we are working to develop a solution to support them in the future.”

Release Date Announced For Nintendo’s 3DS – Unofficial

A European newspaper has inadvertently let slip the release date for Nintendo’s 3DS.

The details are that its to be launched this coming November in Japan and then followed by Europe next Spring, though this should all be made official when the announcement is made at a Tokyo press event September 29th.

Sharp Galapagos e-Reader Tablets Announced

Sharp is to launch a couple of e-Reader tablet devices later this year. They will be both called the Sharp Galapagos and will come in two versions one of which will have a 5.5 inch screen and a 1024 x 600 pixel display. The second model will be a larger 10.8 inch device with a resolution of 1366 x 800 pixels.

Each device will have an LCD screen. For connectivity they will have 802.11b/g wireless and for navigation they will have a trackball.

Each device is scheduled to be launched in December of this year and the launch will be accompanied by the launch of 30,000 newspapers, magazines and books for reading on the device. [Read more…]

Two Palm Phones Could Launch Soon

Rumours about two new Palm webOS based phones and a new TouchStone have started circulating.

The details of the devices were revealed in a certification database. The database used was the same one that originally tracked the launch of the Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus which indicates that this could potentially be the real deal.

The two new model numbers listed include the P102UNA and the P102EWW as well as the TouchStone charger. [Read more…]

SHatter iOS 4.1 Jailbreak

The SHatter iOS 4.1 jailbreak looks to be moving along nicely looking at information provided by the iPhone Dev Team.

The video embedded below shows an iPod touch 4th gen model being jailbroke. The SHatter software will use the exploit found by pod2g.

In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below! It’s all working: customized Preferences to show battery percentage, Cydia, root shell…the works!

Future Gen iPad Design Spotted in Patent

It isn’t known just yet when Apple [AAPL] will launch a second generation iPad although April 2011 is touted due to it being the 1 year anniversary of the first iPad launch.

Some details of what the next gen iPad could look like have been uncovered in a patent application. The new patent shows an iPad with two dock ports (one on the long side and one on the short side) as well as a Smart Bezel that could be used for extra input on the tablet. The extra dock port would allow the iPad to be docked in landscape mode allowing movies to be watched while keeping it charged. [Read more…]

Microsoft Press Conference Announced for October 11

Microsoft [MSFT] has announced that a press conference is being held on October 11 at 2PM in London. The press conference will run from 2pm to 5:30pm and is expected will be the Windows Phone 7 announcement as previously rumoured.

As well as launching the Windows Phone 7 OS, it is expected that press can get their hands on Windows Phone 7 devices at this time to test on location at the event. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Release Date is October 21 – Latest Rumor

New information reveals that Microsoft [MSFT] could be launching Windows Phone 7 on October 21. Neowin has spoken to people familiar with plans that suggest an event will happen on October 11 in New York City and then several events around the world will shortly follow in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Following those events it appears that Microsoft could give the go ahead to release several Windows Phone 7 devices to the market although it isn’t clear which countries will get the phones at launch.

Over here in the UK, Microsoft is planning for a London based radio station to promote the new operating system. Orange is also expected to be part of the launch. [Read more…]
