Reactor Watch – Lights up for 10 Years

Reactor Watch
If holding your watch up in the light for a few minutes to make the hands glow is not enough, then the Reactor watch feature tritium-filled tubes which will keep the thing alight for around 10 years. The watch is named the Superluminova and recharges instantly with just a small amount of light which then keeps it illuminated for up to 10 years. That’s a long time and I sincerely hope you do not plan on staying in the dark for 10 years to test if it stays lit for that long.

It will set you back $300 – $450 over at Reactor Watch.

Ball and Magnet Watch – The 900 Abacus

abacus_watch_silver
Watches are getting very interesting over the last few years which LED watches becoming quite popular from Tokyo Flash. Often they are made from slightly different materials to get a sleek look. The latest I came across was the 900 Abacus watch which uses a ball and magnet to tell the time. There are no hands or numbers on the watch. To tell the time you take a look at the magnetic sphere which moves around the face. The sphere is not fastened down and when you walk around the sphere moves around freely under the glass till you hold the watch flat. At this point the sphere rolls to the correct time. As it only has 1 sphere, it only tells time by hours which means you need to roughly estimate how many minutes past the hour it is.

The watch is also water resistant down to 30 meters.

The watch prices will start just short of $150 with more information available at Questodesign.

GPS Rear View Mirror

GPS Mirror Radar
Checking your rear view mirror when driving is what most of us do quite regularly. A company has come up with an idea which includes GPS information in the mirror for feeding back information to you such as speed traps, speed limits and accident black spots. This is idea as it takes advantage of your quick glance in the mirror to check behind. As well as showing details of those 3 items, it can also display speed and what direction you are heading. I am not sure if the GPS unit is used to just track the things mentioned here, or if it is programmable. Either way it looks like a cool optional extra for your car.

Shinshoku from TokyoFlash

Shinshoku
The guys at TokyoFlash launch some seriously interesting watches and this latest watch is no exception. It is named the Shinshoku and is a continuous stainless steel band which wraps around your wrist. Holes have been put in the band allowing for several colours of LED to shine through which some how show the time. 3 versions of this watch are available with the 3 colour LED watch being the easiest to read. The other options are all red or all green LEDs. To tell the time you will see that the watch is divided in to 3 sections. The left shows the number of hours, the right lower shows the quarter past marks (15, 30, 45) while the upper right is the minutes with in the quarter past marks.

Its a crazy but kind of cool looking watch which has animated effects when wanting to see the time. It is available from TokyoFlash and costs around $114 which isnt bad.

Vulcania Watch

Vulcania Watch
I have always been a fan of a good watch, my current being one from TokyoFlash who most of you are probably aware of. However, I came across the Vulcania Watch from HD3 which is another amazing looking watch. It used to be in concept but eventually became a real device. As can be seen in the pictures, the watch works in a deeply set 3D display. The watch can be seen through it’s front and back sapphire glass panels. As can be seen, this is one seriously cool watch. To add to it’s looks, the watch is made of titanium and platinum. Unfortunately only 11 of these watches will be made. If you are lucky to get your hands on one then let us know 🙂

JLr7 Wrist Watch

JLr7
Another beauty from TokyoFlash has gone on sale. This time it’s the JLr7 abstract LED watch. For those of you who like something different then your average watch then you need to visit TokyoFlash and get something cool.

The JLr7 is a sleek GunMetal and black finished watch which has a unique read out. If you are new to TokyoFlash watches then you will not be suprised at how it looks. If you are new then pay attention. The JLr7 has a blue or green LED readout which is animated. It gets its name from the top row of LED’s which form the letters JLr7 and was made by e35 (Eri and Eiichi). When friends glance over at the watch it will seem like some random pattern of lights. However, to the trained eye it will be much more. It will be the actual time.

Between 6pm and Midnight the watch animates every 15 minutes to give an effect of it malfunctioning. Through the day it will sit nice and dark until you press a button to show the time. The LED’s are set in to sections of 12 for the hour, 3 for the quarter past, halfpast and quarter to and 14 lights for the times inbetween. 3 other lights show the seconds ticking.

To know which lights mean which, there are subtle lines dividing sections of the screen so you can more easily calculate the time.

The JLr7 watch is available for 40 pounds in the UK, but TokyoFlash will ship anywhere. Just be mindful of the import fee’s associated.
