Laser Tag Helicopters

Laserheli
Helicopters are cool, especially when they are remote controlled. Mix two RC helicopters together with a game of laser tag and you are on to a winner. This set of helicopters has just that. You have 2 helicopters which are armed with a transmitter and sensor. If one shoots the other then the injured helicopter quickly looses power and falls to the ground dead. This could give hours of entertainment. The only sucky side of all this is that RC helicopter battery life generally isn’t that long.

iRemoco RC iOS Controlled Helicopter Launching

iRemoco is an RC helicopter that is controlled by an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. The kit comes with a radio device that connects to the 30 pin dock connector on your iOS device. When connected, you load up an app and can then be used to fly an RC helicopter around with either two on-screen analogue controls, or by a single control and motion to move the helicopter around a room.

The app also can be used to switch between three different frequencies so that up to three helicopters can be used at the same time.

Flyfire Create Moving 3D Displays

The guys at MIT have come up with a concept idea that will allow 3D displays to fly around. The project is dubbed Flyfire and uses a bunch of miniature helicopters each of which house LED’s that can individually light up.

The helicopters fly synchronised and images are beamed to the array of LED’s in the helicopters to make a large flying image. At the moment it is unknown how far the MIT guys have gotten with this concept idea as flying a single helicopter is hard enough, let alone a few thousand of them flying within inches of each other.

From what we have found out, it seems the helicopters all react to each other. It seems that when one moves, the rest follow to keep the image stable in the air. [Read more…]

Remote Controlled Buzz Lightyear

In the past we’ve spoken about remote control cars and rc helicopters but how about remote controlled movie characters??

Well, Buzz Lightyear, as many will know, is the famous character from the Toy Story movie that was originally released back in 1995. Now, 15 years later, you can get hold of your very own (or for your kids of course) Buzz Lightyear remote controlled toy.

The Buzz Lightyear remote controlled toy measures approximately 16″ in height and is fully programmable allowing you to control it’s hands, head, arms and legs. Sensors can be found on Buzz which can detect motion and sound as well as being able to respond to prompt commands found in the users manual.

WickedLasers Photonic Disruptor Review

WickedLasers asked if we could review another of their high powered laser pens. Of course I said yes as no matter how many laser pens I have seen in the past I still find they are very cool (although dangerous if not used correctly). The laser is named the Photonic Disruptor and unlike every other laser that requires safety specks to be worn to protect the eyes, the disruptor is supposed to be aimed at people’s eyes to temporarily disorient them. In the words of WickedLasers it is described as…

an extremely effective, non-lethal, waterproof high powered green laser built specifically for rugged, harsh environments. This laser is classified as TALI¢ (Threat Assessment Laser Illuminator)…. This tactical laser is equipped with versatile focus-adjustable collimating lenses to compensate for range and power intensity. Laze a non-lethal focused or unfocused beam towards potential threats at a distance. Used properly, the Photonic Disruptor¢ will temporarily overwhelm a threats visual senses without causing permanent eye damage.

Scale RC Models

RC planes, helicopters and cars are cool. I have seen a few RC planes and jets, but not actually seen scale models of real planes such as RC 747s, RC Concordes and others. Over at funny pictures you will see a bunch of planes that have been made, scaled down and actually being flown around.

Palmsize Helicopter – RC Living Room Flyer

Palmsize RC Helicopter
Tiny RC helicopters are great fun to play with. The main one you are probably aware of is the Picoz which came out late last year. The palmsize helicopter looks to be slightly smaller then the Picoz and it capable of being fully controlled. The helicopter can be turned left or right as is slowly moves forwards. It can also take off right from the palm of your hand. This is a perfect toy for those like me who like toys in the office.

The helicopter comes in 2 colour which are red or silver and each has a different frequency which allows 2 helicopters to be flown together. Luckily the helicopter is light enough not to actually break when it crashes.

The remote control is infrared, so you need to be in line of sight to use it although you would be stupid attempting to fly a helicopter you couldnt see. Attached on the front is a Multi colour LED for night flying. The helicopter is supposed to be flown indoors but can fly outside if there is ZERO wind. I did try an indoor helicopter once outside and smashed it with in seconds because of ignoring a zero wind rule 🙂 For 15 mintues of charging you can get around 7 minutes of flying time… so maybe you need to purchase 3 to keep one in the air constantly.
