Acer have introduced a new line of notebook computers called the Acer Aspire Ethos series. The new series of netbooks are designed to look good as well as have high performance chips inside letting them run good too.
The notebooks are called the Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G and the Aspire Ethos 5943G which come with a range of processors which includes the Intel Core i5 and i7 range of processors. The Acer 8943G is the higher end of the models (and the larger) and features an 18 inch screen with a full HD resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. The smaller 5943G model has a 15.6 inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 786 pixels.
Powering the graphics in each Ethos notebook are ATI Mobility Radeon HD5000 graphics chips. Other features on the notebook computers include Dolby Home Theatre surround support which offers a 5.1 output. NVIDIA have announced a new NVIDIA ION GPU that potentially can deliver graphics up to 10 times faster and still retain a battery life on the netbook of 10 hours.
The new GPU's use what is called NVIDIA Optimus technology that allows the netbook to "vastly outperform basic netbook graphics by delivering rich HD media in games, movies, and Internet-based video."
Netbooks are traditionally known as being a little on the slow side when it comes to most things, but by using one of the NVIDIA ION GPU's in there, it totally transforms the netbook allowing it to playback HD video without jitter as well as play games such as World of Warcraft without problem. Acer have unveiled their latest netbook called the Acer Aspire One 532G. The new Aspire One 532G is the first netbook to run the NVIDIA ION 2 chipset.
Feature wise, it has a 10.1 inch LED backlit display. It uses an Intel Atom N450 processor that runs at 1.66GHz which is complimented by the NVIDIA GT218 GPU that has 512MB of dedicated memory attached.
Battery life on the new Aspire One is also excellent and according to numbers is good for about 10 hours of usage on a single charge which we assume is low usage and not highend graphics usage. [click to continue…]
The Acer Aspire One running the Intel Atom N270 processor is currently on clearance over at Amazon. As it runs the Intel Atom N270 processor, it is classed as being slightly older due to the launch of the Intel Atom N450 netbooks recently.

DigiTimes are reporting that Acer expect to be the first company to produce a Google Chrome OS netbook with the company expecting them to start shipping the new netbook in the second half of 2010. Acer have been working on the new netbook since earlier this year according to DigiTimes sources.
