The Nokia 1100 wasn’t a phone I was expecting to write about this morning but yet when I heard that someone paid almost $32000 USD to get their hands on one I was slightly intrigued.
Nokia are planning to build a Netbook according to a China-based Economic Daily News. The reports mention that a company named Elite Computer Systems (ECS) are discussing the said Netbook.
I spotted a few pictures today of an old familiar logo and operating system. The Windows 3.1 OS was running on a Nokia N95 though… how strange but cool at the same time.
For those in North America you will finally be able to get your hands on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
Nokia have been showing off a little bit with this teaser ad which shows a Nokia phone with a full face touch-screen, slim silver bezel and very few hardware controls. It is supposedly a next-gen mobile phone and if created, looks to be fantastic.
The Nokia Communicator has always been a bit of a brick. The idea was great, but I felt it never looked quite the part. Recently, images of a new touched-based communicator have been floating around which appears it might actually be worth looking at.
Another concept device from Nokia shows us what laptops could really look like in a few years time. This new design is built like a scroll with a flexible OLED screen. With it being OLED it provides a very bright and colourful image for the user making it great for watching movies.
Nokia have filed a patent for a tactile feedback trouchscreen which the idea is to create a “variable and controllable user perceived surface roughness or friction coefficient”. This system works by closely spacing protuberances that are controlled by voltage. Crank up the power and the surface gets rougher basically. The surface runs completely smooth when no voltage is applied.
Nokia recently demonstrated their new Maps application which (although they don’t admit it) it is to compete against Google Maps. The service will run on Ovi, which is their social media site. The map software is designed to run on the PC, but approaches the problem of decent mapping from a different angle.
Nokia recently showcased a cool app for Nokia mobile phones. The app is named shoot-to-translate and it is capable of translating from Chinese to English by taking a photo of the Chinese text that you want to read.
