Nokia Everyone Connect Event

An event by Nokia [NOK] is happening in the next 14 hours that nobody really knows much about. Some believe it could be related to Ovi Maps Navigation although that was recently pushed in an event in London.

Over at Mobile review we heard that the event isn’t related to the Nokia N8 which is a shame, but with a bit of investigating they found out that the event could be related to a new messaging solution called Nokia Messaging. [Read more…]

Nokia E71 and E66 get free Navigation with Ovi Maps

Nokia [NOK] have announced that a couple more of their phones are now capable of running Ovi Maps that provides free satellite navigation around the world. Phones now compatible with the service are the Nokia E71 and the Nokia E66.

The Ovi Maps application has worked on several other phones since January which included the E72, N97 Mini and X6, and due to the amount of people requesting it function on the E71 and E66, they decided to listen and created a compatible version.

When used with the Ovi Suite, the latest country maps can be downloaded on to the device allowing users to use the service off-line making it quite an attractive application. When compared to other free mapping services such as Google Maps (only in the US), they use on-line maps meaning that when you loose signal you are unable to navigate. Nokia doesn’t suffer with this problem if maps are synchronised. [Read more…]

Back in early February we mentioned details that had leaked about a Nokia N8 smartphone which was expected to have 720p capabilities and a 12 megapixel camera. A few pictures have now leaked with what we believe to be the Nokia N8-00 device.

The phone is believed to have a 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen, a 12 megapixel camera with the usual Carl Zeiss optics lens and a HDMI output to play the 720p content stored on it. Another post indicates the screen could be closer to 4 inches rather than 3.5 inches, but we have no official word on that.

The phone is believed to run the new Symbian ^3 OS and from what we see on the pictures it’s a touchscreen phone only with no slide-out QWERTY keyboard. [Read more…]

Nokia Cseries Phones Announced

Nokia has announced the Nokia Cseries category for new smartphones launching. The first phone in the Cseries category is the Nokia C5 we just reported on.

The Cseries represents a shift in Nokia’s device naming convention and ads to the other 3 categories of phones already mentioned which are the Nseries, Xseries and Eseries devices.

The categories use a 1-9 numbering system with 1 being the cheaper less featured phones while 9 represents the higher-priced top end phones (putting the Nokia C5 right in the middle).

Each of the series represents a different “type” of phone. The new Nseries will be classed as Nokia’s flagship phones that will contain all the advanced features. Xseries will represent social entertainment. Eseries focusses on productivity and business (similar to blackberry style devices) and the Cseries represents the “core range of products” in Nokia’s words. [Read more…]
