Motorola DEXT Android Phone Announced

motorola-dext-1Motorola have announced a new Android based phone called the Motorola DEXT. This is the companies first Android based phone that features a slide out full QWERTY keyboard with a directional pad to the left of the keyboard. It has a touchscreen (capacitive we assume due to how Android works) and has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

For connectivity it has all the usual stuff bundled in such as Wi-Fi, 3G as well as GPS for guidance. Rather than using the standard Android from off the virtual shelf, the DEXT uses it’s own skin in a similar way to how HTC have the Sense UI. Motorola call their version Motoblur that mixes in the social network type stuff on to the main pages of the menu. From the home page you can see your friends updates on Facebook, emails from GMail, Yahoo, music from Last.FM and information from MySpace as well as Twitter. Other functions include the capability to upload pictures and reply from the menu pages too. [Read more…]

The LG 55LHZ is a 55″ screen that is backlit by many LEDs. Each LED can be switched on and off independently so that blacks are actually black. Up to 240 levels of brightness can also be achieved which overall gives 40 times more contrast than a typical HDTV according to LG. [Read more…]

AMD Eyefinity – Six Monitors on One Graphics Card

eyefinity3_fullAMD have created the Eyefinity graphics card that is capable of supporting up to 6 monitors. Most graphics cards struggle with handling just 1 30 inch monitor with a resolution of about 2560 x 1600 pixels, so for a graphics card to support 6 monitors it’s quite an achievement.

AMD have created a single GPU card that can handle six DisplayPort connectors each having a 30 inch screen attached to it. When the 6 monitors are connected the resolution is bumped all the way to 7680 x 3200 pixels and it functions as a giant screen. [Read more…]

Nikon D300 Discontinued

Nikon_D300We heard this morning that Nikon are now discontinuing the Nikon D300 digital SLR camera that has been a great camera since it’s launch. The Nikon D300 was recently replaced by the D300s. The D300 was a little behind in these last days in that it couldn’t do video but there are mixed feelings on DSLR’s needing to do video anyway.

The D300 was first launched in August 2007 and now that it’s not being built any more we could see prices dropping on the camera while stocks are finally depleted. If you still want one of these great cameras then it might be worth checking out Amazon to see if they have any good deals on it. [Read more…]

Huawei 3G Wireless Router

Huawei-3G-Wireless-RouterHuawei make a number of 3G dongles primarily found in a USB port on the side of a laptop or netbook computer. They have now created the E5 that can be used as a portable 3G wireless router by converting your 3G mobile phone signal and routing it over wi-fi to a wireless connected laptop.

As it uses wireless to transmit the signal it can be used as a wireless hotspot for a few people when on the move. OhGizmo mention that this is the worlds first 3G dongle to achieve this although wireless tethering is possible on rooted Android phones as well as other devices. But, having a device specifically designed for this purpose could come in handy as wireless tethering on the Android is just computer to phone rather than several computers to phone which the E5 allows.
