Toshiba 160GB 1.8″ Single Platter Drive Launched

toshiba-MK1634GAL-1-8-inch-hard-driveUp till now, the largest 1.8″ single platter harddrive had a capacity of 80GB. Toshiba is about to change that though as they have created the same physical sized drive but with a 160GB capacity instead.

The new Toshiba drive is numbered the MK1634GAL and spins at 4200 RPM. It isn’t a SATA drive, and instead uses a PATA interface. The drive also has some soft of acoustic management technology which makes it also run quieter which is another bonus. [Read more…]

TomTom XXL 530S and 540S Launched

TomTom-530-vs-330TomTom has launched their latest PND (ie, GPS satnav) units that have a 5″ widescreen display as well as upgraded routing technology. The new routing technology is based around IQ Routes that calculates the quickest journey time based on historical data.

HTC Leo Smartphone – First Shots

htc_leoThe HTC Leo has finally been pictured in decent quality. When it was first spotted it looked a tad fake. Well, as can be seen it is definitely real and has an impressive 4.3″ capacitive touchscreen. For reference, the phone next to it has a 3.6″ screen.

The HTC Leo will run Windows Mobile 6.5 when launched (known now as Windows Phone) and will have a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, a 1GHz Qualcomm 8250B processor and will measure just 11mm in thickness. [Read more…]

Apple Tablet Rumours Begin Again

apple-tabletNow that the new range of iPods have been officially announced it’s time to get back to the rumours of the Apple Tablet. The latest is that industry sources have said a new 9.6″ multitouch screened tablet from Apple will be on it’s way February 2010 and will include built in HSDPA along with a decent battery for keeping the thing running for a decent amount of time.

A PA Semi processor is to be used and the price tag will be somewhere between $799 and $999. Shipments of the Apple Tablet are said to get to Apple for December ready for the launch a couple of months after that. For the battery, DynaPack are reported to be creating 300,000 per month and Wintek are said to be creating the screens. [Read more…]

HP Envy 13 Inch Notebook

hp-envy-13-notebookThe HP Envy is a 13 inch ultra portable notebook that is designed to tackle the MacBook air and Dell Adamo in looks and features. The screen measures 13.1 inches and from what we see in pictures, it also appears to be very slim and a great looking notebook computer.

The only specs we know of so far are that it has 2 USB ports, an audio jack and a HDMI port. No details of the graphics, memory, processor and connectivity are known just yet. [Read more…]

LG GW620 Android Phone

lg-gw620LG have announced and made official it’s first Android based phone named the LG GW620. The GW620 is a landscape QWERTY slider phone that has a 3 inch touchscreen on the front. It was first seen over at IFA in Germany a couple of weeks back and was named the Etna.

LG haven’t revealed the full specs just yet of the GW620 but if it follows on from LG’s latest phones then it will likely have either a 5 or 8 megapixel camera. [Read more…]

Wi-Fi 802.11n Finally made Official

FINAL FINAL WiFi next logoAfter a number of years, 7 to be exact, IEEE standards have now ratified the 802.11n wireless specifications. For the last 2 – 3 years it has been known as draft-n. Making it official is a way that those companies who create products based on the n specs will now be compatible with others who follow the same guidelines.

802.11n was first planned back in 2002 but due to resistance from Atheros and Broadcom it delayed things a lot as they couldn’t agree on a common ground for the n spec. [Read more…]

Nokia Erdos Leaked

nokiaerdosDetails of the new Nokia Erdos have leaked. The Erdos features a polished aluminium casing along with a mirrored 2.4 inch OLED QVGA screen.

The camera has 5 megapixels, has auto-focus and uses Carl Zeiss optics for the lens. To light up shots the Erdos also features a dual LED flash. Memory on the phone can be expanded by using a microSD card up to 8GB in capacity. For connectivity it supports Wi-Fi, aGPS and Bluetooth (A2DP). [Read more…]

ASUS Designo MS Series LCD Monitors

Asus-Designo-MS-SeriesASUS have unveiled their latest slim LCD monitor range named the Designo MS Series. Five monitors are launching named the MS246, 236, 227, 226 and 202. Each has a 2ms response time with a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and they can all display full HD at 1080p.

ASUS claim the monitors have an extra 40% in power savings as well as Video Intelligence Technology and mixing that with a profile of just 16.5mm you have quite a nice looking screen to view. [Read more…]
