LG GW520 Review

LG-GW520-keyboardWe recently received the LG GW520 phone for review. The GW520 has a 2.8 inch touchscreen along with a full QWERTY slide out keyboard making it ideal for social networking and messaging. A number of modern phones have virtual keyboards that work well, but for some people they just cannot get to grips with on on-screen keyboard and hence, prefer the physical keyboard instead.

Priced at £169.95 for a pay-as-you-go version the GW520 is at a good price for what you get. It’s not the cheapest of phones but at the same time, it’s not the most expensive, and sits in an affordable bracket.

The phone it’s self feels a little plastic in comparison to LG’s high end phones such as the LG BL40. Also the phone is slightly fatter than other LG phones due to the physical keyboard, however this doesn’t make it an oversized phone and it does sit quite well in your hands. [Read more…]

SideKick Data Recovered – Well, Most, If not All

sidekick-dataIf you were mixed in with the sidekick data loss problems of recent days then all might be ok thanks to most, if not all of the data being recovered. The outage was cause by a system failure that basically lost user data that included contacts, messages, photos, calendar, tasks and high scores on a number of users phones.

We are pleased to report that we have recovered most, if not all, customer data for those Sidekick customers whose data was affected by the recent outage. We plan to begin restoring users’ personal data as soon as possible, starting with personal contacts, after we have validated the data and our restoration plan. We will then continue to work around the clock to restore data to all affected users, including calendar, notes, tasks, photographs and high scores, as quickly as possible.

Want 1MB Broadband Guaranteed? Move to Finland

broadband_providersIf you are living in Finland as of next July, you’ll legally be entitled to receiving broadband at a minimum speed of 1Mbps, or I should say “accessing” broadband at 1Mbps. The move comes thanks to Finlands Ministry of Transport and Communications who have passed the law to say that 1MB is a legal right.

However, it doesn’t stop there as this will be ultimately bumped up to 100Mb in the not too distant future. The 100Mb legal right was mentioned just over a year ago to be put in place by 2015 and this 1Mb rule seems to be a step in between. Maybe they can expect 10 Meg late next year followed by 25Meg, on to 50Mb and then by 2015 hit the big goal. [Read more…]

Google Building Maker Review

Google-Building-MakerGoogle [GOOG] have created Google Building Maker which is a program that allows you to create 3D buildings for Google Earth.

By using this software you become part of a world wide team that is creating a virtual planet a single building at a time (although you don’t get paid, it’s all done with a passion for wanting to create something cool).

To get the software you need to load up the Google Building Maker page (link above) and click to download a 3D plugin the loads right up in your browser. After that you are presented with a map (see image above) where you can zoom right in to where you want to start designing. The problem here is that not all places have good enough imagery, so the other options you have is to find a place that does, or use one of the suggested locations that Google lists. [Read more…]
