iPhone 4 FaceTime 3G Could come to Jailbroken Devices

The Apple iPhone 4 has a number of new features one of which is FaceTime. FaceTime allows you to video call from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4. However, there is currently a restriction on the iPhone 4 preventing it from working over a 3G connection.

Musclenerd commented on twitter a couple of days ago that one reason to jailbreak the iPhone 4 would be to disable the WiFi only restriction on the iPhone 4.

Apple just gave whole new reason to jailbreak iPhone 4: to trick FaceTime video chat to use 3G (not restrict to wifi)

Get the iPhone 4 UK Cheaper by Recycling your old 3G, 3GS

If Apple [AAPL] impressed you enough to grab an iPhone 4 in the next couple of weeks then you might be able to save a bit of money by selling your old phone back to O2.

We don’t yet know the iPhone 4 UK price, but we are hearing rumours that it will fall in line with what the iPhone 3GS prices were recently ie, if you pay more per month and commit for longer you’ll get it for free and then the lower you commit, it will cost more out right.

On to the O2 deal, we noticed recently that they have a recycling scheme going on and the prices they are willing to pay back are not bad at all. Looking at the prices we see that the iPhone 3GS 32GB fetches up to £253 while the 16GB 3GS will pay you £240. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4 UK – O2 Early Upgrade Details Announced

The Apple iPhone 4 is launching in just a couple of weeks. However, the iPhone 4 UK pricing has yet to be revealed. What we do have though is details for those on O2 network wanting to upgrade to the iPhone 4.

O2 suggest three ways to get an iPhone 4. The first is to take advantage (or disadvantage?) of their early upgrade offers. O2 is offering those with a current O2 contract the ability to upgrade early for a “small” fee. The O2 early upgrade calculator can be found here and from what we can figure out, it seems to add £20/month for each month you have left on your contract although if your contract ends before August you won’t pay any extra fees. After that, each month ads an extra £20 to the cost of upgrade, so if your contract ends 17 December this year, you’ll pay £100 inc VAT on top of what you pay for the iPhone 4. [Read more…]

HTC EVO 4G Macro Lens Reviewed – Stunning Results

GoodandEvo has reviewed the Magnetic Macro Lens for the HTC EVO 4G. The magnetic macro lenses are capable of attaching to the back of a camera phone, in this case a HTC EVO 4G, and allow macro shots to be captures.

When first seeing the lenses on the internet (perhaps a year or more ago at a guess), I didn’t think much to them, but now that someone has taken time to upload some decent shots I am quite impressed. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4 – Skype Wants in on FaceTime Video Chat

When Apple [AAPL] announced the Apple iPhone 4 the other day, one of the new features called FaceTime was announced that would “finally” bring video calling to a mobile phone. However, we have seen this in the UK for maybe 7 or even 8 years now, but anyways!

We suspected the other day that companies like Skype would look to using or integrating with FaceTime that would allow video calls to reach beyond the current iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 requirement that is in place. If Skype could integrate it could allow the iPhone 4 to make video calls to millions of users on Skype and other video services.

Pocket-Lint spoke to Skype about this where they said it…

“would welcome the opportunity to work with Apple”, when it comes to enabling Skype video calls on the new iPhone 4.

Sony has announced two new digital SLR cameras in the Alpha range called the A290 and the A390. Each has a 14.2 megapixel sensor along with a 2.7 inch tilt LCD screen with quick AF Live View. A HDMI output is also included on both cameras.

The new Alpha cameras drop in at the lower end of digital SLR cameras that Sony offers with the A290 being the slightly lower spec of the two devices.

Even DSLR novices will find it brilliantly simple to explore the generous creative features of both new cameras. The intuitive Graphic Display makes it easy to understand the relation between shutter speed and aperture, plus the effects of your chosen exposure settings on the final picture. Sony Vaio L All-in-One PC Review

We recently tested a Sony Vaio L All-in-One PC to see how it runs, how it performs and if it’s any good. To be honest, I’ve never really paid interest in the all-in-one style PCs so I didn’t really know what to expect.

Starting with the design and looks of the device, it looks great. The Vaio L has a large multi-touch screen measuring 24 inches in a full HD resolution. Below the screen is a stand that runs the full width of the device and forms part of the whole unit. On the back, a kick stand flips out that lets the Vaio L lean backwards slightly on a table. As with many other All-in-One PC’s there is just 1 cable going in to the back which provides power to the unit. This makes All-in-One PCs a lot easier to set up as well as cutting back on the clutter that regular PC’s have. Overall, it looks great sitting on a desk and when people see it, they always ask what it is and what it does. [Read more…]

Google Maps Navigation Hits Canada and Mainland Europe

Google [GOOG] has announced that Google Maps Navigation is now available for those in Canada and a number of places in mainland Europe.

The Google Maps Navigation service was previously available to just the US and UK, but the new version out today will allow you to navigate freely across more countries.

The reasons that Google could be doing this is possibly due to competition from Ovi Maps Navigation that has far more free navigation coverage than Google has. We wont know for sure and to be honest, we don’t really care what the reasons are. All we want is free satnav and Google as well as Ovi Maps can now provide that. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 UK Price – How much will it be?

We have all the official details on the next generation Apple [AAPL] iPhone 4, but many are left wondering what the iPhone 4 UK price will be. We know the US pricing already, in that it’s $199 for a 16GB model for new contracts and those eligible for an upgrade, and $299 for the 32GB model. Prices are higher for those upgrading early, or for those purchasing a no commitment device AKA PAYG in the UK.

Over here in the UK, we have four networks who have all announced that they will be selling the iPhone 4. These include O2, Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile. What we hope to see is some competitive pricing where we will see the iPhone 4 going for free on the higher end contracts and getting progressively more expensive as you spend less per month, or commit to a shorter contract length.
