VLC Media Player Now Available for Download

The VLC Media Player app for the Apple iPad has now been approved and is ready for download in the iTunes store.

The application is free and allows you to stream multimedia content from another device to the VLC Media Player app on the iPad. The description explains that most media files can be played and that the app also supports a number of streaming protocols.

VLC has all codecs built-in. It comes with support for nearly all codec there is. And what is more it can even play back the file or media if it is damaged! Missing or broken pieces are no stop to VLC, it plays all the video and audio information that’s still intact.

Halo out of reach with disc read error

There is nothing quite as bad as finally receiving your very own copy a game that you’ve been waiting for ages to get your hands on, only then to find it doesn’t even work.

With over $200 million worth of copies of the last instalment of the Halo series, this has certainly made its mark in gaming history. But this, unfortunately, has been marred by many users being unable to play their copy of Halo: Reach due to a disc read error. Forums dotted all over gaming websites (including Bungie as well) have been growing and growing with rather disgruntled gamers. Yet still, its been unclear as to the cause for this, though here at Gadget Venue, we think its more likely that a dodgy batch of games got out, seeing as such a huge number needed to have been produced in order to try and keep up with customer demand.

UK To Get Microsoft Zune

 

Its now, finally official. Its now time for the UK to get Microsoft Zune. Usually you’d have to be in the USA or happy to import the various gadgets over to the United Kingdom. This is to coincide around the same time as the release of Microsoft’s Windows 7 phone asit will come with the ability to sync itself with your Zune device.

Google [GOOG] has released an update for Google Earth on the iPhone and iPad. The new version is 3.1.0 and brings a few new features to the 3D globe.

FringOut Launched by Fring

Fring has launched a new service called FringOut. FringOut is a service that lets you make cheaper international calls that begin at under 1 cent per minute in cost.

Right now only Nokia S60 devices can use FringOut although Fring has commented that the software will be soon rolled out to the iPhone as well as Android based smartphones.

If you are running a Nokia S60 device you can grab the Fring install now. Once installed you’ll need to signup for the FringOut service. When you have registered you’ll then be able to start making international calls from your smartphone at low rates. [Read more…]

HTC HD7 Release Date and Pricing Revealed

More information about the HTC HD7 has been revealed. The HD7 is believed to be previously named the HD3 and will launch with Windows Phone 7 sometime in the middle of October.

The document says that the HTC HD7 release date will fall in the 42nd week of the year which ends up being on or around October 18.

The information is from O2 in Germany. Prices are also revealed which indicates it will cost 79 Euros on a 24 month 20 Euro contract, or if you want commitment free it’s 559. [Read more…]

Casio Exilim EX-Z16 Announced

As well as announcing the Casio Exilim EX-H20G, Casio has also announced the Exilim EX-Z16.

The camera is a slim, 12 megapixel camera that has a 3 times optical zoom lens. The camera falls more towards entry level with its specifications.

Features include a 2.7 inch LCD screen along with the ability to capture YouTube optimised videos at 640×480 pixels. Twenty three individual scene modes can also be found in the camera. [Read more…]

Private Browsing Hits iPhone and iPod touch – Jailbreak Needed

If you have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch then the Covert app found over on Cydia can be installed. What it does is adds a tweak to the browser on the iOS based device to allow you to switch browsing to a private mode, much like how Firefox and Internet Explorer have a private section of the browser.

What this mode does is allow you to browse the internet from the iOS device in complete privacy. For example, you could be looking up some health condition that you don’t want others to know you searched for.

The app integrates in to Mobile Safari and simply ads a button on the bottom tool bar that you can press to jump in to private mode. [Read more…]

Apple Store App gets iOS 4 Updates Including Retina Support

Apple [AAPL] has updated the Apple Store app in the app store. The latest update brings it more in line with the iPhone 4 and iPod touch in that it supports the Retina Display now.

As well as supporting the higher resolution screen, the app store app also supports iOS 4 quick-app-switching allowing you to jump in and out of the app when needed and carry on where you left off. [Read more…]

Casio Exilim EX-H20G Announced

Casio has introduced a new point & shoot digital camera called the Casio Exilim EX-H20G. The new EX-H20G is the worlds first camera to include a hybrid GPS system that lets users geotag photos as they are captured. This allows photos to be organised by location as well as file name.

The new Exilim camera has a 14.1 megapixel sensor inside. For storage it uses SD, SDHC or SDXC memory cards. The lens is capable of 10 times optical zoom and it has an ISO range of 80 to 3200.

On the back is a 3 inch LCD screen. The camera has image stabilization in the way of CCD-shift. For video, it can capture at 720p. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy Tab Promotional Video

Over the weekend, Samsung launched a new advert for the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The ad covers a number of features that the new Android tablet device has such as Widgets, Google Maps Navigation, music & videos, emails (pictured above), eBooks as well as a few technical things like streaming video to a HDTV, the battery life (7 hours) and the memory expansion up to 32GB.

The main problem here though is that we still don’t have official word on the price from Samsung. It is believed right now that the SIM free model will be more expensive than the iPad. [Read more…]
