Recently at a show in Tokyo a Philips were showing off some transparent OLED displays. The screens were capable of letting about 70% – 75% light through when switched off.
The idea is great as it could turn any window in to a display. OLED’s tend to be very thin due to no backlight being needed as each individual pixel can be lit up a different colour with it’s own light source. Unfortunately there are no details on how the transparency is achieved but it is expected that the setup will probably be similar to current non transparent versions that we see around. [Read more…]
Engineers at Toshiba in Japan are on their way to making OLED wallpaper. What this technology allows you to do is paper your wall in a very thin OLED screen. Companies in the last few years have managed to create ultra thin screens that are capable of being rolled up and it is this technology that might be used to power the paper.
This touchscreen display from Stantums technology is fantastic. The system is a software update that refines how resistive touchscreens work and the results are just incredible.

LG have uploaded photos of 7 new LCD TV’s that will be launched in 2009. I managed to scrape information together on the basic specs of the LCD’s. The first series of TV’s mentioned here is the LH range numbering from the 2000 lower end series right up to the LH9500 which is an LED backlit TV running at 200Hz. The Miseal is a small cube shaped projector that is small enough to sit on the palm of your hand. It is capable of projecting an SVGA image at 800 x 600 pixels.
Phillips has introduced a 21:9 aspect ratio TV called the Cinema 21:9. Due to the extra wide aspect ratio, it puts the screen in the same proportion as a real cinema.
Yesterday we mentioned how Toshiba was following the Pico projector scene by creating their own version. Samsung are also on to this by creating the portable projector MBP200.
The Sony KDL46Z4500 is a 46″ LCD screen that runs in full HD at 1080p. An exclusive technology was built in to this TV that allows for 200Hz refreshes making it a world first when the TV was launched a few months back.
The Panasonic TX32LZD80 is a 32″ LCD display from the LZD80 range of screens. The screen is in a widescreen 16:9 format and has a large viewing angle of 178°.
BagTV is a new range of handbags that have an integrated TV on the side. The screen measures 7″ and is capable of displaying DVD movies and MP3 audio.
I didn’t think I’d be writing about a “non digital” photo frame… but I am doing just that today. This talking photo frame holds a regular printed photo and allows you to record up to 10 seconds of audio for playback when touching the glass.
