Apple iPad in UK Delayed till Late May

Loading up the Apple [AAPL] website in the UK the message on the front page has changed to now say the Apple iPad is coming Late May (rather than Late April).

We suspected this after hearing nothing in the way of pre-orders here in the UK with late April already fast approaching.

From what we understand, an announcement will be made on May 10th with details of the launch date and pricing for the device. Pre-orders will also start on May 10 as indicated on the Apple website. [Read more…]

Mobile Safari vs Opera Mini iPhone Speed Test

A few days ago Apple [AAPL] surprisingly approved the Opera Mini web browser for the iPhone. Opera have designed their browser to be faster than Safari with claims from the company saying it can potentially beat it speed wise by up to 5x.

Of course 5x is quite a bold statement to work, however after testing my self, seeing a video online and seeing some test results compiled by LifeHacker it seems like this is almost the case in some instances which is quite impressive.

Opera Mini achieves fast page loads on the iPhone due to caching pages and compressing pages and images severside before the iPhone receives the information. By doing all the hardwork on a powerful server(s) before it gets to the iPhone, it simply lets the iPhone download the pages requested and due to them being compressed it also means less data to transfer to your phone. iPhone HD Could be Unveiled June 22

Rumours are going around about Apple [AAPL] unveiling their next gen iPhone 4G, or iPhone HD or whatever it’s going to be called. The date rumoured is June 22

“For this particular occasion, Apple has once again reserved the very conference center where the company announced the three previous versions of the iPhone,” Messany reports. “So all signs, indeed, point to June 22nd proving the 4th gen iPhone’s ‘big day.’ Knowing Apple, however, we probably won’t know for sure until the evening of June 21st.”

Obviously this doesn’t provide concrete evidence, but it’s certainly the “right” time of year for Apple to make such an announcement (if they are indeed launching a new iPhone this year) and if they have followed the same pattern for the last 3 years then it makes sense they would hold it at the same location. Phantom Flex Captures full HD 1080p at 2800 Frames Per Second

There’s a few cameras that come with the ability to capture video at a silly amount of frames per second rate nearing the 1000 mark and slightly above. However, such cameras normally work at a really low resolution of double digit resolutions.

The Phantom Flex is different in that it can amazingly capture up to 2800 frames per second at a Full HD resolution (ie, 1080p or 1920 x 1080 to be exact). That’s some impressive stuff there and certainly grabs out attention.

The sensor is capable of capturing 4K images at 1560 frames per second. Capturing some still respectable images with a 640 x 480 resolution you can then capture at a rate of 6300 FPS. [Read more…]

HTC Assessing Development of Own Smartphone OS

HTC are assessing the possibility of developing their own operating system for smartphones. Reasons for this seem to include their ever growing popularity as smartphone manufacturers and their current reliance on operating systems primarily from Microsoft [MSFT] and Google [GOOG]. If they develop their own OS they will become an independent platform allowing them to create what they want.

Just yesterday we mentioned that Palm [PALM] was up for sale and that they were actively looking for a buyer, even to the point of wanting to start negotiations as early as this week. Palm are believed to have said to HTC – hey, asses webOS. [Read more…]

Adobe Prepping Lawsuit against Apple – Rumour

We are hearing rumours today that Adobe are preparing to file a lawsuit against Apple [AAPL]. The rumours say that this is related to the changes in the iPhone OS 4.0 SDK which essentially blocked Adobe from working on the iPhone with their 3rd party software.

It seems that Apple blocking 3rd party coding has been the last straw to bring Adobe to this.

It of course isn’t clear if Adobe will get anything out of this as essentially it’s hardware that Apple create and it would appear that they can do what they like in terms of what they think is best for users. The legal system will have to sort it all out though. Also the fact that right now this is just speculation, so it’s hard to really comment any further. [Read more…]

The software used is part of Sketchup that allows you to use pictures captured from above buildings in several angles and create 3D models of the buildings.

It isn’t clear how long it has taken to get the whole of NYC complete, but the results are quite impressive. [Read more…]

Nintendo Game Boy Hack gives Video Out

The custom built box is actually an old VHS cassette that is home to a bunch of electronics and sits in-between the Game Boy and TV.
