Nokia and Windows Partnership: Nokia Windows Phone 7 Coming Soon

Nokia and Microsoft have confirmed that the Windows Phone 7 platform will be arriving soon on Nokia smartphones.

The Windows Phone 7 operating system will become one of the primary platforms on Nokia smartphones in the coming months and years and this switch over marks a big change in direction for Nokia who were struggling a little with the Symbian operating system. [Read more…]

iBooks for iPad and iPhone Updated

Apple has updated iBooks for the iPhone and iPad (as well as iPod touch). The new update is version 1.2.1 which brings several new features to the eBook reader.

Top of the list of updates is stability and performance. Apple have made the app run a little smoother on each device as well as prevented bugs and crashes from happening. [Read more…]

webOS Hitting PCs This Year

Although webOS is coming to a couple of new phones and a tablet computer, we also heard yesterday that webOS is coming to the desktop as well.

HP announced that it intends to bring the OS to other connected devices which would include computers, printers and other form factors that we haven’t seen before. [Read more…]

Android 2.3.3 OS Announced

Google has announced the launch of Android 2.3.3. Android 2.3.3 is a small feature release that extends Android 2.3 Gingerbread to give it some new NFC capabilities.

NFC (near field communications) was included in the Android 2.3 update. What the 2.3.3 gets is the following extras:

* A comprehensive NFC reader/writer API that lets apps read and write to almost any standard NFC tag in use today.
* Advanced Intent dispatching that gives apps more control over how/when they are launched when an NFC tag comes into range.
* Some limited support for peer-to-peer connection with other NFC devices.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Release Date is Feb 22

On February, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will be released for public download. As well as the new service pack being made available for Windows 7 users, it is also available for Windows Server 2008 R2 users.

To get the update you need to either just wait for Microsoft to promt you that it’s available, or you can load up the Windows Update and manually check for it after the 22nd February. [Read more…]

HP Veer webOS Smartphone Announced – Tiny with 2.6 Inch Display

HP announced the HP Veer along side the HP Pre 3 and the HP TouchPad last night. The HP Veer is the smallest device announced and comes with a 2.6 inch screen that has a resolution of 320 x 500.

On the back is a 5 megapixel camera. Other features include Wireless and Bluetooth for connectivity. For storage, it has an 8GB capacity (6.5GB available space). The small smartphone is compatible with the HP Touchstone charger. It also has GPS built in. [Read more…]

HP Pre 3 Announced

HP made a number of announcements last night. The next of those after the HP TouchPad is the HP Pre 3. The HP Pre 3 is a follow on from the Palm Pre 2 with the new HP branding.

The HP Pre 3 has a slide down QWERTY keyboard and uses the same form factor as previous versions when under the Palm brand. It has a 3.6 inch screen that is capable of showing 800 x 480 pixels. This is a step up in terms of resolution from the previous versions.

On the back, a 5 megapixel camera can be found. There’s a camera on the front as well allowing video calls to be made between other Pre users as well as TouchPad users. [Read more…]

HP TouchPad Announced: 9.7 Inch webOS 3.0 Tablet

HP has announced a new tablet called the HP TouchPad. The TouchPad is a webOS 3.0 device that has a 9.7 inch XGA capacitive touch screen. The 9.7 inch screen has 1024 x 768 pixels.

The technical specs reveal that this webOS based tablet has a storage capacity of either 16GB or 32GB. For connectivity it has wireless 802.11b/g/n as well as Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. The two capacity models will also come in two varieties with one having 3G and the other being WiFi only (same as the iPad). [Read more…]

Sony A77 DSLR Announced

The Sony A77 is the new replacement for the previous Sony A700 DSLR.

One of the more obvious changes to looks to be a transparent case although this is just a teaser image for now. One of the big changes is that this particular digital SLR camera uses a transparent mirror inside. This mirror is the same one that first showed up last year on the A55 and A33 cameras. What the transparent mirror does is allow for real-time autofocus when capturing both stills and HD video. [Read more…]

Nokia N9-00 MeeGo Device Axed

Reports are going around today hinting that the Nokia N9-00 MeeGo smartphone is getting axed by Nokia.

This particular device is being referred to as the N9-00 although this was never confirmed by Nokia. The said device was first spotted in the middle of 2010 although not much else was heard about it. [Read more…]

BBC iPlayer App Hitting Android This Week

Earlier this week, information leaked out from the BBC that iPlayer was being launched as an App for iPad owners in the UK. This has now been confirmed by the BBC.

What we hear now is that an Android version is also being launched. The release date is also this week, probably tomorrow as well.

Olympus Megazoom SZ-10 and VR-320 Announced

Olympus has announced a couple of new cameras called the SZ-10 and the VR-320.

The SZ-10 has a 14.1 megapixel sensor and the camera uses the TruPic III+ image processor for sorting images out. The LCD on the back measures 3 inches and has a higher resolution when compared to previous cameras in this range. [Read more…]
