Apple [AAPL] sent out an email to developers the other day indicating that iOS 4.2 was just around the corner.

The email says that iOS 4.2 will soon be in the hands of millions of customers around the world. The email was sent out to developers to let them know they can now submit updated apps to the app store that contain 4.2 optimised code and then suggest that developers can start utilising Multitasking (already available from 4.0 onwards) as well as Game Center (4.1 onwards) and finally AirPrint (iOS 4.2 onwards). The XperiaX10 website has received an anonymous tip along with a picture that claims to show the next generation smartphone from Sony Ericsson called the ANZU. The ANZU is believed to be the successor of the Xperia X10 range of smartphones.

The device its self is said to have a 4.3 inch display and be very thin. As well as showing a leaked picture of the device, the ANZU will also run Android 2.3 when it launches rather than an older version. The phone pictured here shows it running Android 2.1 although this is a very early prototype model. [Read more…]

Namco has announced several classic games that will be arriving on the Windows Phone 7 platform. Games include Flight Control, More Brain Exercise, I Love Katamari, PAC-MAN and Puzzle Quest 2.

WMPoweruser has spotted the microSD card slot on the Dell Venue Pro Windows Phone 7 smartphone. Unlike some other WP7 devices where the card slot is buried deep within the hardware, Dell has made the microSD card slot some what accessible when only taking the back cover off.

However, there is a snag here in that the microSD card slot is actually covered by a warranty sticker. Basically, that means that if you decide to mess with the microSD card slot and increase the memory capacity of the device, you’ll end up voiding your warranty on the phone. [Read more…]

Early reports from analysts indicate that Microsoft [MSFT] only managed to shift 40,000 Windows Phone 7 smartphones on the US launch a few days ago. Microsoft has not commented on the numbers yet. If analysts are correct (which they not always are), this would put sales far behind those of the iPhone and Android based smartphones.

Analysts also hint that some problems could be related to a choice of too many smartphones. Four were available on launch day with even more being launched over the next few weeks. Also, there were some stocking issues from what we understand with the HTC HD7 being out of stock in many places as well as shortages of the Dell Venue Pro. [Read more…]

Vodafone in the UK will soon be offering the HTC Desire Z on contract. At the moment, the only option over here is to get the Desire Z sim-free and pay full price out right for the handset.

When Vodafone launch the Desire Z, it will be free for those paying £30/month on a business contract for 2 years. [Read more…]

Rovio has jut launched a new update for Angry Birds for Android smartphones.

The latest version brings QVGA support as well as a few bug fixes. As well as the backend getting work done on it, there’s also 45 new levels added to the game as well as a new bird. [Read more…]

For those of you looking to root your T-Mobile G2, you’ll be glad to hear that a permanent solution has been created. Up till now, any rooting of the G2 was only temporary.

The new solution works by starting off on the same footing as the old root, but rather than leaving it just rooted a few extra steps need to be accomplished to lock in in place.
