Nokia Siemens has provided some interesting details that indicated the latest iOS 4.2.1 update Apple [AAPL] released last week, includes some new tech that helps reduce congestion on cellular networks. In doing this, it also increases battery life by decreasing network usage on the phone.

Nokia Siemens Networks is one of the worlds top suppliers when it comes to cellular infrastructure. The company also points out that Nokia Smartphones have also included this tech in the basebands of the phones since the beginning of this year. With Nokia and Apple both using the new tech, it will certainly take a lot of strain off the networks given that they account for more than half of the smartphone sales from what NSN says. More pictures of the Motorola Olympus have been sent in to Gizmodo. This time, the phone was found in a flea market. The person managed to capture some pictures of the device, in a good resolution and not blurry which makes a change.

Things known about the phone show that it runs Android 2.2 as the OS. Its model number is MB860 and inside, a Tegra 2 chip can be found. [Read more…]

Some information has been spotted about the next two version of the Google [GOOG] smartphone operating systems. The next version, expected next week, is Android 2.3 AKA Gingerbread. Following that we hear that it’s Honeycomb or Android 3.0 in number terms.

The information was gathered from AIRBench who gathers information on benchmark tests on various phones. It appears that some users who are testing the operating systems have been using this service to record scores. Samsung has launched an app in the Android Market for those who own Samsung Galaxy S class smartphones that still have GPS problems.

Since the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S, it has had problems tracking your location with some cases reporting that you are in the next city along.

“During online surveillance, there is an abundance of GPS tweaks that impair GPS performance. Often times, no backup is performed to restore values prior to modifications. Samsung has released an application that restores GPS settings to recommended factory defaults for optinum [sic] performance.”

Handyscan is an app for the Windows Phone 7 operating system. What it does is allows you to capture pictures of documents and store them as JPG or PDF files on your smartphone. Once captured and stored, you can then use email to send the docs to your email address.

The Handyscan software allows you to scan multiple pages per document and it also gives you the ability to rotate and crop images after taking them. [Read more…]

When developers create apps or games for Android, they are now required to submit them with a content rating.

The four content ratings are as follows… All, Pre-teen, teen, mature.

“To prepare for this launch, starting next week, developers submitting new or updated applications will be required to include a rating for all applications and games uploaded onto Android Market. In addition, developers will have the next several weeks to add a rating to their existing applications and games. Once content rating is visible to users, any applications or games that do not include a rating will be treated as “Mature”.”

According to an alleged email sent from Steve Jobs, we will be seeing AirPlay move over to Safari and 3rd party apps sometime in 2011.
