Samsung Tablet Could get Dual-touch Features

Samsung has filed a patent that details a device with dual-touch features. What this means is that the screen on the front will be touch-sensitive as normal, but also that the back of the device will integrate touch.

The patent shows all the details and describes the system as a ‘Mobile terminal having dual touch screen and method of controlling content therein.

If implemented on a tablet device it would allow users to hold the device and control functions on screen by sliding fingers across the back of the device. [Read more…]

Motorola 10 Inch Tablet Hinted on Verizon

Some rumours going around today indicated that Motorola is launching a 10 inch tablet soon. The tablet will use Android for the operating system and have a 10 inch screen.

Other features include Adobe Flash support (we assume that means the Motorola Tablet will run Android 2.2), along with two cameras (front and rear facing), mobile hotspot functionality and access to pay TV. [Read more…]

Google Multiple Sign-in Has Arrived

Google [GOOG] is in the process of enabling mutiple sign-in for various Google services which includes GMail, Google Calendar, Google Sites, Google Reader, Google Voice, App Engine and Google Code.

To get the system working you need to first enable it in your account preferences. Once enabled, you can then choose to log in with various Google accounts.

“If you use multiple sign-in, the first account you sign in to will be your default account. If you visit other Google products that don’t support multiple accounts after you’ve signed in, you will automatically sign in to your default account for that product. If you sign out of any Google product while signed in to any account, you will be signed out of all your Google Accounts at once.” (Google help center)

Square Payment System Returning Late Summer

The Square mobile payment system took a bit of a break earlier this year due to a few problems with the fraud prevention infrastructure.

We now hear that the issues have been resolved, or are about to be resolved and that the Square payments system will be launching again late summer this year.

The device it’s self is a small square unit that attaches to an iPhone. The small square is capable of scanning credit cards so that transactions can be quickly and easily be made in stores. [Read more…]

Sony PlayStation 3.41 Update Fixes HDD Problems

Sony has re-released version 3.41 of the latest firmware for the Sony PlayStation 3. The older 3.41 update launched recently and actually caused a problem for those upgrading the hard drive on their PS3 unit.

Some minor changes have been made to the 3.41 firmware to eradicate the problem. The changes to the update were so minor that the company decided to just keep the firmware version at 3.41 which can be downloaded now. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 Jailbreak PDF Exploit – Apple Investigating

It was revealed this week that the iPhone 4 jailbreak uses an exploit found in the PDF code. When a web browser opens a PDF file, it allows code to be injected and executed which in turn, allows the jailbreak to happen. On the downside, the flaw in the PDF code also will allow malicious websites to link to PDF websites for other code to be injected that can actually cause harm to your iPhone 4.

Apple [AAPL], as expected, is looking in to the issue and we assume that by the time the iOS 4.1 update arrives in a few weeks time that the hole will be sealed preventing the iPhone 4 jailbreak in it’s current form from working for those who upgrade to iOS 4.1. [Read more…]

Motorola Glam Hits Korea

Motorola is launching the Motorola Glam this month in South Korea. The new phone runs Android 2.1 and has a 3.7 inch screen that uses capacitive touch and is multitouch. It has a decent resolution of 854 x 480 pixels.

On the back is a 5 megapixel camera along with a dual LED flash to light subjects in dark lighting conditions.

For connectivity it has Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and we assume WiFi although this isn’t specifically mentioned. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 Unlock Download Available

Earlier this week Comex released the iPhone 4 jailbreak. Today, the iPhone Dev Team has released the iPhone 4 unlock that allows users to easily switch carriers.

The unlock comes thanks to ultrasn0w which has been updated to include support for unlocking the iPhone 4.

The version is 1.0-1 and it is compatible with the iPhone 4 baseband 01.59 along with the iPhone 3G and 3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04. [Read more…]

BlackBerry Torch Heading to Vodafone UK

Vodafone has announced that it will be selling the newly announced BlackBerry Torch. No specific release dates have been provided at the moment. We do know that the US will get the Torch on August 12, so we suspect that Vodafone will either launch the device the same day or shortly after.

The new BlackBerry Torch runs the latest BlackBerry OS which is version number 6. The new OS brings a number of new features to the new BlackBerry Torch including the ability to use tabs whilst browsing. The new version brings the BlackBerry to a wider audience which includes some that didn’t want to make the switch due to the corporate feel of the device. [Read more…]

BlackBerry OS 6 Will not hit Storm or Storm 2

RIM just announced the BlackBerry Torch 9800 this morning. The new BlackBerry Torch will run the long awaited OS 6 when it launches in a couple of weeks time.

Along with the launch details earlier today, a press release was sent out that indicates that older devices will not be getting an update to BlackBerry OS 6.

Subject to carrier certifications in the months ahead, the new OS is expected to be available for the BlackBerry® Bold¢ 9700, BlackBerry® Bold¢ 9650 and BlackBerry® Pearl¢ 3G, as well as future BlackBerry smartphones.

AT&T BlackBerry Torch 9800 with OS 6 now Official

The latest BlackBerry smartphone has been made official. The new device is the BlackBerry Torch 9800 which runs the new OS 6.

Features include a 3.2 inch touchscreen that has a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels. When launched, it will be headed to the AT&T [T] network.

Other features include a slide out QWERTY keyboard along with a wireless 802.11b/g/n connection and Bluetooth 2.1. The camera is capable of capturing images at five megapixels and the phone has a built in flash. [Read more…]

Huawei E583C Mobile WiFi Hotspot Unveiled

Huawei is launching a new MiFi device that can connect up to HSPA 3.5G networks.

The new WiFi hotspot allows up to five wireless devices to connect up at the same time to share the 3.5G connection. If using the USB port on the device to tether it to a laptop, this allows up to six devices to share the connection. [Read more…]
