The screenshot below is of the LEGO awesome machine. It isn't clear if that's the name of the device or if the creator is just referring to it as an awesome machine that is made of LEGO. Either way, it is awesome.

Check out this crazy looking track. It's called Metropolis II and is a custom build road system that can carry 1,200 cars at a time along with 13 toy trains. Around the tracks is scenery built from Lego.

Each of the 1,200 cars has been custom designed. The track starts by lifting 5 rows of cars up a steep hill and then letting gravity bring them down to the bottom of the track where they get lifted up again. [click to continue…]

By combining some Lego parts and a computer, one particular guy has managed to create a system that can scan objects in 3D. These 3D objects can then be exported to use in the LDraw software to be used as parts in Lego projects.

The LEGO 3D scanner was built by Phillipe Hurbaine who took care of the software and Lego building to make this project work. To see it in action, check out the video embedded below. [click to continue…]

The MakerLegoBot is a robot made of Lego that is capable of printing objects with Lego bricks.

The system was designed and built by the team at BattleBricks and uses Mindstorms NXT computer (three of them) to control the printer. A feed mechanism can be found attached to the side of the device that has the job of holding many bricks which are then grabbed as needed by the system. The bricks are then pushed in to the appropriate plans. The plans themselves are fed in to the NXTs via USB. [click to continue…]

New Lego Wii Remote

by Martyn on October 14, 2010

When I was a kid (kinda still am depending on who you talk to) I tended to use the little blocks to make spaceships, guns, (not very good) swords and towers. Even now I still like to play around with it a little from time to time though.

What's tons better though, is that as an exclusive product to Toys 'R' Us, you will soon be able to get your hands on a LEGO Wii remote. [click to continue…]

Skyfire is a browser that is capable of playing flash content on the iPhone. The way it works is that Skyfire has a cloud server which recognises content on a page is flash. The server then converts the flash to HTML 5 content on the fly (when the user wants to play flash content). The content is then streamed down to the user to view when needed.

When converting the content from Flash to HTML 5, the system is capable of compressing the file size making the content as small as 25% of the original size. [click to continue…]

The NXT is a brick shaped computer that is capable of detecting inputs from sensors. We've seen the NXT used a number of times in custom built Lego projects.

In this case, the NXT has been used to play back sounds and basically sound like a drum machine. The drum machine is called the NXT-606. Full instructions have been provided so you can actually build your own out of an NXT kit.

To get the NXT working as a drum machine you'll need to pick up some free software that can be found over here. [click to continue…]

By mixing a LEGO NXT kit and a Droid smartphone, the 7x7x7 Rubiks cube has been solved in 38 minutes and 53 seconds. That might seem slow, but when compared to a traditional 3x3x3 cube there's far more combinations and moves needed.

The whole kit was built by David Gilday who managed to port the cube solving robot software on to an Android device. [click to continue…]

Check out this cool Lego minifigure ice cube tray that allows you to create ice cubes in the shape of those mini Lego men.

The tray comes in blue and is capable of creating 8 minifugures.

The Minifigure Ice Cube Tray is available from the Lego store in the US and costs $8. [click to continue…]

Check out this cool printer. It is built of LEGO and uses a felt tip pen to print on standard paper.

The kit cannot be purchased in a standard kit, ie, it's not LEGO mindstorms controlling the system. Instead the creator managed to design, build and code it all from scratch using analog motor electronics along with sensors and a printer driver. The LEGO printer connects up to a Mac using a USB interface.

When using the printer it looks to work like a standard printer on a Mac in that when you instruct a document to be printed, you can select the LEGO Felt Tip 110 printer from the drop down menu. [click to continue…]

Check out this Lego bridge launcher. The Lego Bridge launcher was built by Mahjqa Kreuger who managed to build a Lego vehicle that is capable of deploying it's own bridge across a gap, driving over it's own bridge and then recovering the bridge afterwards.

It's quite amazing to see the video of it working and how all the various parts move to get the bridge to open up correctly.

The video can be seen after the break which is then followed by a couple of out takes which are quite fun to watch. [click to continue…]

Wortmann has launched a new netbook called the Wortmann Terra Mobile 1020Go. The company isn't really big in the netbook business and not really a company we have heard of before.

Either way, the Terra Mobile 1020Go packs the usual features which includes an Intel Atom N450 processor running at 1.66GHz. It has a 10.1 inch screen that is backlit by LED. Memory wise it has 1GB of RAM and for storage it has a 160GB hard disk drive.

Wireless LAN on the netbook can connect to 802.11b/g networks. The netbook uses the NM10 Express Chipset along with Intel GMA3150 integrated graphics. [click to continue…]
