Samsung has announced the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The new Galaxy Tab has a larger screen, as the name suggests. When launched, it will run the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system that has been designed by Google to be especially for tablet devices.
Powering the device is a Tegra 2 processor. The screen measures 10.1 inches and has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The screen is TFT and very similar to the Galaxy Tab 7 inch model.
It has a couple of cameras with one on the back that is 8 megapixels and one on the front that is 2 megapixels. It is capable of playing back full HD video.
Size wise, it measures 246.2 x 170.4 x 10.9 mm and weighs 599g which actually makes it smaller than the iPad in width and thickness as well as being 181g ligher than the WiFi iPad.
A number of sensors are built in that are usually seen on other devices. These are a gyro, accelerometer, compass and proximity sensor.
In a brief review over at Engadget, the tablet was said to be smooth and work very well.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is expected to launch in March although pricing hasn’t been confirmed just yet. Samsung do say that they will be competitive with pricing which could mean anything. The iPad commonly gets to be used as guide for pricing, so expect it to fall in to a similar price range.
