Apple Launches AirPort Utility for iOS 5

Preparations are still under way for the launch of iOS 5 in the next few hours. Earlier today iCloud went online followed by Find My Friends and now the launch of the AirPort Utility for iOS 5 has happened.

The AirPort Utility is an app that you run on iOS 5 devices which allows you to administer your AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express and TimeCapsule devices.

Use AirPort Utility to manage your Wi-Fi network and AirPort base stations, including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and TimeCapsule – right from your iPad, iPhone, ir iPod touch. See a graphical overview of your Wi-Fi network and devices. Change base station and network settings, or manage advanced features such as security modes, wireless channels, and more. AirPort Utility works with all Apple 802.11n Wi-Fi base stations, including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and Time Capsule.

This particular app was expected to be built in to iOS 5 although this has since changed, hence the launch of the app. It works on all iOS 5 devices from a single app (ie, it’s universal) and is available now for download. You’ll need iOS 5 to get it which is available to developers at the moment but if you hang on for a couple of hours you’ll also be able to get the new iOS from Apple and begin using the several apps we have mentioned today.
