The R2-D2 limited edition Motorola DROID 2 was spotted yesterday over at the Star Wars convention in Orlando. Along with seeing the new smartphone there, the launch date was also revealed to be September 30.
The image above shows the device from a couple of angles. We have seen a similar picture before (just yesterday), so it's good to confirm with different pictures that it is the real deal. [click to continue…]
The Motorola DROID 2 is available as of today. However, if you want the R2-D2 model, you'll need to wait a little longer before you can purchase one. We heard yesterday that the Star Wars specific model wasn't shipping till September.
The image above (and larger below) shows what many believe is to be the Motorola DROID 2 R2-D2 limited edition.
The new limited edition model is expected to be unveiled today at the Celebration V show. We'll keep an eye out to see if that is the case and get some pictures uploaded. [click to continue…]
We briefly mentioned a couple of days ago that as well as the Motorola DROID 2 launching, a special R2-D2 DROID 2 would also launch.
We now hear that the R2-D2 DROID 2 will be launching in September on to the Verizon [VZ] network.
The special edition DROID 2 will come pre-installed with exclusive Star Wars content. As well as the internals getting a little Star Wars treatment, the outside will also be designed to look like R2-D2 from the Star Wars films. [click to continue…]
Verizon [VZ] has announced the Motorola DROID 2 along with a release date and pricing. The pre-sale of the DROID 2 will start tomorrow on August 11 with shipping of the smartphone starting August 12.
Price wise, the DROID 2 will cost $199.99 as expected along with a two year contract agreement that you'll need to sign.
OS wise, it comes with Android 2.2 pre-installed. Android 2.2 is the latest OS from Google [GOOG] and just in the last month has started rolling out to various smartphones. Thanks to Android 2.2, the DROID 2 is able to run Adobe Flash 10.1 which is available to download on all 2.2 based devices.
"When we announced DROID X last month, we reaffirmed our commitment to continue to bring unique Android experiences to the Verizon Wireless network," said Jeffrey Dietel, vice president wireless device, marketing and development for Verizon Wireless. "The DROID by Motorola was our first Android device, so it is important for us to include the successor to that phone in our portfolio. DROID 2 is not only a continuation of our commitment to Android but offers customers the features and form-factor they crave on the Verizon Wireless network."

TomTom might have Darth Vader and Yoda, but Garmin has KITT from Knight Rider providing voice instructions to users.
NavTones has announced that the voice of KITT is now compatible with those who own Garmin Nuvi GPS or Garminfones found on T-Mobile.
The voice of KITT for Garmin devices was actually made by the real voice of KITT, meaning the actor who originally did the voice back in the 80's, which means it will sound as authentic as it will get. [click to continue…]
Several months ago, TomTom released the Darth Vader voice pack for TomTom navigation devices. The packs brings famous voices to the system so you can be navigated around by something other than the traditional boring voices.
The next character to be added to the list of voices is Yoda. As TomTom did with the Darth Vader voice, they also have provided a behind the scenes look at how the recordings were made, in a funny and not real way of course.
The video can be found below... [click to continue…]
We are not 100% convinced this is actual game play on the new Microsoft XBox 360 Kinect. The demo shown on video is for Starwars and it shows a demo of the game running with a guy supposedly controlling it through the new XBox 360 Kinect (previously known as Project Natal).
The reason we posted it was because it looks great... but at the same time it doesn't actually look real in that it seems like the user is following the character instead of the character following the user. It seems like it's more staged than anything, but either way, hopefully we'll see some clearer demos soon showing actual in-game footage and controlled by someone. [click to continue…]

More voices are in the works too which C-3PO being released in June as well as Yoda following (again) in July. Han Solo is next after that and will be arriving sometime in August. Ever wanted to build your own Death Star or perhaps a Light Sabre or Darth Vader mask? This book is for you. The Star Wars Blue Prints book provides all the details you need on how to build all of the above items. Of course you'll need quite a large factory (about the size of a small moon) if you want to build a full operational Death Star as well as means to get it up in to space, but forgetting the small obstacles you'll have all you need to get going.
It actually looks like quite an interesting book for times when there isn't much going on and well worth paying the $14 or so dollars for someone's Christmas present (although if you are still shopping now then you'll have to pay for next day shipping to get it on time). [click to continue…]
The clock here is built from an old Millennium Falcon from Star Wars and uses the centre point of the ship to embed clock work in to it's innards.
Although not a difficult task to accomplish, ie, use a drill and some clock parts, it still looks unique on any wall.
One funny thing to note is the picture to the right of the Millennium Falcon Clock... check out the Storm Trooper there (better picture after the jump). [click to continue…]
