So far there have been three Windows Phone 7 Series devices confirmed so far. Engadget managed to get a picture of all three side by side. (See larger picture below).
The first phone on the left is a Samsung that was first announced just yesterday with the second (middle phone) being an unbranded ASUS device that was first spotted a few weeks back at MWC and then the LG slider phone that was also spotted on the Engadget show a few weeks back.
The Samsung doesn’t have a name yet although it was referred to yesterday as being the Samsung Slate which could have been just referring to it being a large touch-screen device. Either way, we’ll find out the official name soon. The phone it’s self has what is believed to be an OLED screen, 256MB RAM, 8GB Flash and directX9 acceleration. [click to continue…]

If you thought a physical keyboard was the only way to tap out a text message on a phone then think again.
Youtube user konceptzoflife successfully managed to tap out a message at an impressive 83 words per minute which is quite amazing if you ask me. The test was done on an Apple iPhone running some software called iTextSpeed to put the words on the page which are then typed in as fast as possible. [click to continue…]

The USB Power Station is designed to give your mobile phone batter a boost when you are away from a regular power source. The device can hold up to 5000mAh of battery storage that can charge a mobile phone, MP3 player or any other electrical gadget while on the move.
The Power Station has a couple of USB ports allowing up to two phones to be charged simultaneously. With a 5000mAh battery built in it allows for a regular phone to be charged 2 – 3 times or more depending on the capacity of the phone battery you have (usually between 1000mAh and 1500mAh).
The USB unit measures 110 x 70 x 16mm and weighs just 152g making it quite small and handy to carry around. [click to continue…]

Several days ago, Engadget managed to capture on video a new, kind of mysterious, Windows Phone 7 Series phone that was claimed to be the first handset to be made available. We are now hearing that the handset will be called the LG Panther.
No other details on the phone are known other than what we obviously see in the picture of it in that it has a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out the left side of the device along with a large touchscreen, three physical buttons below the screen that are mandatory on all Windows Phone 7 Series handsets and we assume a 1GHz Snapdragon processor that is also mandatory. LG are launching a new 15 inch OLED TV in a few months time over here in Europe. The new TV will cost a hefty €1,999 (about $2,699 USD) although for that you do get a very thin HD screen that has an impressive contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 along with LG’s TruMotion 100Hz technology.
Being an OLED screen it benefits from having excellent picture quality, but due to how expensive it is to use OLED technology the screen’s aren’t cheap and probably won’t be for another few years till they enter mass production. [click to continue…]

Last week we mentioned that LG were readying the first Windows Phone 7 Series handset ready for launch sometime between September and November this year.
Engadget managed to take a look at the handset whilst filming the Engadget Show. A quick look at the picture above shows that it appears to have the right things in place to qualify as a Windows Phone 7 Series handset such as it having 3 hardware buttons below the screen and a large high-res screen that’s capacitive touch. If you are looking for a new SATA hard drive and need a lot of capacity then Amazon have a good deal on at the moment bringing a 1.5TB SATA drive down from $122.99 to just $99.99.
The WD Caviar Green range cut down power consumption by 40% and run quietly. By using caching algorithms the drive is able to adjust spin speed while maintaining transfer rate, thus the 40% saving is achieved. [click to continue…]

Finally we are hearing some news about when Windows Phone 7 Series handsets will be shipping. From what we have heard it seems like LG are to be one of the first, if not the first, to have some hardware ship later on this year sometime between September and November. At this point there are no official dates and most of it will probably be related to when Microsoft [MSFT] can get the final build ready and waiting to ship.
The information came from a sitdown meeting with LG Mobile in Hong Kong where the dates were revealed. [click to continue…]

LG have created a new display that has obtained the Windows 7 Touch Logo certification. The screen measures 13.3 inches and is a capacitive multitouch screen that is designed for netbooks and laptops.
LG have taken a slightly different approach in creating this touchscreen. Normally a layer is applied over a standard display. In this case, LG have built touch sensor within the display it’s self. Benefits of using this type of system are that the screen size can stay the same thickness regardless of it being touch or not (which ads slight bulk to a screen). Also picture quality is not filtered at all allowing for crisp images to be seen. [click to continue…]

Corsair have announced their latest secure USB flash drive called the Corsair Flash Padlock 2. The Padlock 2 is able to encrypt data by using a built-in 256-bit data encryption algorithm as well as restricting usage by using a PIN access pad.
The Padlock 2 flash drive is encased in a ruggedized housing making it durable which keeps your data safe from the elements.
No software is required to access the secure flash drive due to the PIN keypad and software being built right in to the device. When operating the device you simply enter your PIN number when you first connect it to a PC running Windows/Linux or a Mac. [click to continue…]

The Sync Blocker cable is designed to prevent the signals that allow your device to sync when it is hooked up to a computer. Reasons for using this cable would include using a USB port on another computer that someone else owns so that when you connect it all the syncing process doesn’t start automatically, or perhaps you only want to charge your device on an office computer and only sync at home.
A control key is included on the side of the USB connect which allows you to enable and disable Sync functionality so that your cable can be used both at home and out and about. [click to continue…]

Mobile phone company LG in the past have focussed on their own operating system running S-Class. Although it worked quite well, it always had a few niggles inside that made it frustrating to use with some screen transitions not being as smooth as the iPhone for example. Their hardware for a long time has always been top notch though. Following their own OS they then switched to making Windows Mobile devices with the S-Class interface on top.
LG made an announcement that they are not in the market of developing their own proprietary OS. Instead, they will focus more on the handsets that will run either Google [GOOG] Android or Windows Phone 7 Series. This is good news as both the OS’s mentioned are being heavily developed by dedicated teams and in the terms of Android (the only one of the two currently available), it is making serious steps forwards in to becoming in the “top 3″ mobile phone operating systems.
