Skype for iPhone Gets Video Calls

Skype for the iPhone has received an update bringing it up to version 3.0. This is the very same version we reported on a couple of days ago that had leaked on one of the Skype websites.

What Skype 3.0 brings to the iPhone is video calling, but video calling isn’t restricted to just WiFi, good news here is that Skype allow video calls over WiFi and 3G.

Two-Way video calls can be established between various devices including the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th gen although on the 3GS the rear camera will need to be used which doesn’t help things.

Here’s a full list of what Skype has added to the new version…

• Make Skype to Skype video calls on WiFi and 3G
• Call Skype desktop users (Mac OS X or Windows) and other iPhone users.
• Two-way video calls supported on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th gen.
• Receive only video supported on iPad and iPod touch 3rd gen, with no camera.
• Make video calls in portrait and landscape.
• Skype video calling requires iOS 4.0 or above.

Just one note is that for those making 3G calls, you might get data costs, so be aware of that.
