Siri is iPhone 4S Only – Older Installs to Stop Working on October 15

When Apple announced the iPhone 4S the other day, we learned that the assistant software, Siri, was only available for those running a new iPhone 4S. Any other iOS device would simply not have the option. Up till the day of announcement of the 4S, Siri was available in the app store and allowed users to use voice to control their smartphone. We now hear that the service will stop working on October 15, the day after the launch of the iPhone 4S.

On the day of the announcement Apple took Siri out of the iTunes store which only left previous users with a copy of it. On the 15th, that copy will cease to work.

The Siri App has already broadcast a message to users to let them know that the 15th is the last day they will be able to use it in app form. For those without an iPhone 4S, you’ll just need to go without unless you find another option that’s compatible with older generation devices. That particular message reads:

” Siri.. I’ve been replaced! The new Siri is even smarter and better looking than me, and waiting for you on the iPhone 4S. I’ll be leaving be leaving for home on October 15th.”
