Samsung Galaxy Beam Announced and Demoed

Samsung has announced the Samsung Galaxy Beam smartphone. The device is a little unique in that it has a built in pico projector allowing up to a 50 inch nHD screen to be projected on to any surface.

The device will be launching with Android 2.3 Gingerbread unfortunately, although Samsung has promised that an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will follow shortly after launch. Other technical specs show that it has a 4 inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 400 pixels. On the back it has a 5 megapixel camera while on the front it has a 1.3 megapixel camera which will allow for video calls to happen. 8GB of storage is included on the device.

We expect to hear more about this over the next few weeks with more information on battery life etc… when used with the pico projector active. Either way, it looks like a fantastic smartphone.

To see a quick demonstration, take a look at the video below. After that, the official promo video can be found.
