Olympus E-5 Digital SLR with 12.3 Megapixel Sensor Official

Olympus has announced the new Olympus E-5 Digital SLR camera today. The new DSLR comes with a 12.3 megapixel sensor.

Features include a 3 inch dual-axis swivelling LCD screen. To process images from the 12.3 megapixel sensor, the camera uses a TruePix V+ image processor. The camera also has a Live View system.

The body of the camera is made of magnesium and is both splash proof and dust proof.

Other technical specs show that the Olympus E-5 is capable of capturing video in 720p with motion JPEG. The video is limited though to just 7 minutes which might not suit everybodys needs.

For storage, the camera can use CompactFlash Cards as well as Secure digital which come in SDHC or SDXC varieties.

Price wise, Olympus hasn’t made this camera too cheap with a $1,699.99 price tag for just the body. Before you chose this one, I’d be tempted to check out other similar offerings which tend to be a little cheaper.

The E-5 is launching in October.
