Microsoft Kin One and Kin Two Available for Pre-Order May 6

The Microsoft Kin One and Kin Two handsets are launching in the next week or so. We hear that pre-orders are starting on May 6 with a launch date of May 13. This is for both the Kin One and Kin Two.

Microsoft [MSFT] announced the new social media oriented handsets last month where they were seen to be running a new OS with a UI heavily built around sharing information with others.

The handsets are going to be sold on the Verizon network and will be made available online and in Verizon stores. Later this year the devices will launch internationally on to the Vodafone network.

The Microsoft Kin One is the smaller of the two devices and has a 2.6 inch capacitive touchscreen, a slide out keyboard and a 5 megapixel camera. For storage it has 4GB of internal memory and can connect to 802.11b/g networks.

The Microsoft Kin Two is the larger of the two devices with a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out in landscape. The screen measures 3.4 inches. 8GB of internal memory can be found along with an 8 megapixel camera. Connectivity is the same that allows the Kin Two to connect up to wireless 802.11b/g networks.

We’ll have more details as Verizon update their site.

I think it would be a mistake to pre-order the Kin phone. The Kin is very unusual with many missing features. You really need to know what you’re getting, rather than buy it blindly. Better to wait and see what comes.
