LimeRa1n comes from the iPhone hacker Geohot. Although the LimeRa1n tool hasn’t been announced just yet, we are hearing that it is expected soon and will be capable of unlocking iPhone OS 3.1.3 and iPhone OS 4.0 (no word on the iPad’s 3.2 OS just yet). A website has been set up that can be found here although at the moment it’s simply a rain drop on a black screen.
It is expected that when LimeRa1n does launch (hopefully next month) that it will also get rid of the current tethered boot that the BlackRa1n jailbreak requires on iPhone 3GS models. This is believed to be the case due to a video last month showing an iPhone OS device not requiring tethered boot.
When we get more details of LimeRa1n we’ll provide updates on gadgetvenue.
