The glass back of the iPhone is prone to scratching. Scratching the back is as easy as sitting the phone on a desk and sliding it along.
As well as being able to easily scratch the back, the glass is also scratched when using some third-party cases. This happens when some dust gets trapped between the case and the back of the phone and when the case is slid on or off.
The Apple store has a lack of cases available for the phone and instead, is now just offering the bumper case on the site.
According to GDGT, Apple [AAPL] is very busy testing different cases to see exactly what is causing it to happen. This work will hopefully prevent the back from scratching on future generations of the device.
