iOS 5.0.1 Beta Sent to Developers – Fixes Battery Problems

Apple commented about the battery problems yesterday and said that they are working on a fix that will be made available in a few weeks time. Shortly after the comment, iOS 5.0.1 beta was made available for developers to download.

As well as fixing the battery problems (assuming that they have cracked it), Apple has also made a few other changes and included some security fixes.

For the original iPad, multi-tasking gestures are now back (they dropped in iOS 5 for some reason). The smart cover security issue has also been patched in 5.0.1.

Here is the full list of fixes:

– Fixes bugs affecting battery life
– Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
– Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
– Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
– Contains security improvements iOS 5.0.1 beta introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations.

We won’t know for sure if the battery problems of iOS 5 have been resolved so only time will tell. With iOS 5.0.1 being sent out to developers we expect that the final version will be made available OTA within November assuming developers find no more bugs.
