iOS 4.0.2 Jailbreak Will Not Happen

The iPhone Dev Team has mentioned that iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 3.2.2 will not get a jailbreak.

The reasons are not due to them being stuck and not knowing what to do. Instead, they are waiting for a major release to be launched such as iOS 4.1 for the iPhone so that more iPhone users can take advantage of the exploit.

Now it’s a few weeks later, and Apple has closed the jailbreakme.com hole. They’re shipping devices with FW 4.0.2/3.2.2, impervious to this particular jailbreak. So now, people will begin to ask: will there be a jailbreak for devices that shipped with 4.0.2/3.2.2, out of the box?

No, there won’t be. FW 4.0.2/3.2.2 was *only* released to fix the jailbreakme hole. With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the ‘cat & mouseĀ with Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes.

The iPhone Dev Team do not want to land in a very short term cat and mouse game. If they released a jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2 right now then potentially it could be obsolete in the next few weeks when iOS 4.1 is expected to be launched.

If you own an older iPhone or iPod touch then you can still use redsn0w to unlock your device.

There are too many people that need that jailbreak( iPad owners), for the Dev Team to just say it! The iPhone is still a big seller, but the future is the iPad. Did they forget how many units are flying off the assembly line? Modding the iPad is now more viable than modding the iPhone in My opinion. Themes look better,Backgrounding makes more sense and the iPad has more functionality than the iPhone. There should be a focus on the iPad right now. More people are want a 3.2.2 jailbreak over those that want one for 4.0.1. People will spend more time on an iPad than an iPhone!!! It is really stupid that iPad runs 3..2.2 while iPhone is running 4.0.1. Why even make the iPad, just to cripple it with obsolete Firmware?!
