HTC Touch Pro2

htc-touch-pro2I recently mentioned to someone that I would be keeping my Tytn II for a while longer even after it’s contract ends in a few weeks. However, when seeing the HTC Touch Pro2 this morning I think I might now be changing my mind. The HTC Touch Pro was a great phone, but the Touch Pro2 just ads a bit of class in the looks department.

The HTC Touch Pro2 features a slide out keyboard and a screen that tilts upwards just like the Tytn II. The keyboard is spacious and from the reports I have read, it seems very usable too. Although a keyboard-less phone is usually slimmer and lighter, I just prefer a physical keyboard over a virtual one as many others also do. One change to most mobile phones with speakerphones is that this one features Straight Talk technology that attempts to give crystal-clear sound and voice reception for when using the hands free function. With this phone being used in a conference situation the menu’s also reflect this change and all the options you need to start a conference call are right on the calling screen making it easier to use in those situations.

On the operating system side of things it does run Windows Mobile 6.1. However, it has been confirmed that it will be possible to upgrade (dependant on carrier I assume) to Windows Mobile 6.5 when the phone and OS are launched.

Connectivity does not lack on this phone either as it’s a quad-band phone capable of GSM/GPRS/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. No real surprises or advances there. GPS can also be found in this device allowing you to use applications such as TomTom for satellite navigation or being able to use the camera and GPS together for geo-tagging photos. An accelerometer is also believed to be found in this phone.

The screen measures 3.6 inches and is TFT, Touchscreen and with a 480 x 800 resolution which is a step up from the resolution of the Tytn II which was 240 x 320.

Impressive looking phone. Full features can be found over at HTC’s site.
