HTC Bootloader Unlock Details Announced – Voids Warranty

A few months ago, HTC announced that it would soon begin to unlock bootloaders on its range of smartphones. Exact details were not provided such as which phones etc…, but now the details have been announced.

HTC will provide a tool that unlocks the bootloader on each device. The tool will be launched later this month, but comes with the downside in that it voids the warranty on any device that it’s used on.

The tool will be web based and will allow you to log in (after registering) and then click to accept the terms (meaning, waive all liability) and once done you have the ability to unlock the device via a token that gets installed on the device.

Not all phones will get the service at the beginning. The first devices to be able to have the bootload unlocked are the HTC Sensation, Sprint EVO 3D and the T-Mobile version of the Sensation. HTC hasn’t mentioned when other devices will follow and also haven’t mentioned if all devices will be capable of being unlocked so for now it’s just a matter or waiting a little longer.

For those unsure of why a bootloader needs to be unlocked, it essentially means that custom software can be installed on the device which for some, is a must.
