GyroTablet

GyroTablet
The GyroTablet was a project by Microsoft which was never released. It uses accelerometers and gyroscopes to track it’s own movements and the software can represent these movements on the screen. Coupled together with Encarta Earth in the demonstration below you can see some great results. The project was made in 2002 with the idea of creating a richer interaction experience. Not only was this researched for Tablet PCs, it was also researched for use in Pocket PCs. By using this technology in a pocket PC you are able to interact with images on screen by tilting the device as though you were holding the object in your hand. Video after the jump.

Small screens offer from around 240 by 320 pixels are not enough to show a large image, document or spreadsheet. Using tilt sensors it makes interacting with spreadsheets, documents and images easier. The idea behind this is that you want to look at column Z on your spreadsheet. Rather then holding the pen and tapping the scroll bar on the small screen you can just tilt the PPC and see the sheet slide to the side.
