Google Maps Gets Helicopter View for Directions

Google has added a new view to Google Maps. When planning a journey you now have the option to specify a helicopter view of your route. The reason behind the change is so that you can fly along your route before driving it to get a sense of where you are going and what you’ll see on the way.

It requires that you install the Google Earth plugin on to Google Maps (in the browser) and when installed you just need to activate the plugin to then see the 3D view activate.

The new update is available now and can be accessed at maps.google.com.
