Google Has 190M Android Smartphone Devices in Circulation

Google [GOOG] has officially announced that there are now 190 million Android smartphones. This number also accounts for $2.25bn in extra ad revenue for Google.

Back in July Google also made an announcement but that time there were 130 million devices active which means there’s been 60 million more added since then.

The growth of Android is mind-boggling too. Over 190m devices have now been activated globally. I’m super-excited about the soon-to-be released new version of Android called Ice Cream Sandwich, that’s right, Ice Cream Sandwich. You won’t believe what we manage to get done in this release.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich will likely be numbered Android 4.0 when it launches. The screenshots above show a quick preview of how it will look.

This coming Wednesday Samsung and Google will be launching the new Nexus Prime smartphone and at that time, will be revealing Ice Cream Sandwich. We don’t know if this weeks event will be the official launch of Ice Cream Sandwich, but as it will likely run on the Nexus Prime it is likely we’ll get to see a lot of the OS this week. The new Nexus will be the first device to run the new version of the OS and after the official release date we expect more carriers to be pushing it out to newer Android smartphones.
