Google Android 2.3 Confirmed as Gingerbread

XDA-Developers has managed to confirm that the next version of Android will be Android 2.3 and not 3.0. The 2.3 update is also known as Gingerbread.

The information comes from some pictures captured of the Google Nexus S. Android 2.3 was seen to be running on the device with the about screen showing Android version 2.3 along with the Kernal information, Model Number and others information normally found on that screen.

Some of the specs on the Nexus S include an ArmV7 CPU (perhaps dual-core) along with Open GL ES support, 512MB (maybe 328MB) RAM, 1GB or 2GB of internal memory, 800 x 480 screen resolution, a 4 inch screen (perhaps Super AMOLED2 with Samsung being behind this phone) and a camera that is capable of capturing in 720p HD video.

Another pictures is below showing the Android 2.3 details and several more of the phone and more pictures of the OS running can be found over at XDA Developers.
