Apple has put the older version of Final Cut Studio back on sale due to what is believed to be a mixed reception to the new and redesigned version called Final Cut X. The older legacy version isn’t available through the App Store or online. Instead, you’ll need to call 800-MY-APPLE to get this version.
The price of the Legacy version is $999 for regular customers with Educational customers getting a $100 discount bringing their price down to $899.
Final Cut Studio includes several packages which includes “Final Cut Pro 7, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 3, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5 and Compressor 3.5”.
The legacy version stopped being sold at the time Final Cut Pro X was launched but due to complaints, it’s not back although we don’t know for how long. Remember that to order it you need to call the 800 number as it isn’t available by any other delivery method (ie, retail, online or app store).
Update: The reason Apple is selling this version again is to get rid of unsold inventory, so when it’s gone that will be it.
