Apple iTunes 10.1.1 Update Causing Problems for Some

Apple [AAPL] released a minor update for iTunes on Wednesday. The new version is iTunes 10.1.1 and this version was designed to fix problems which caused iTunes to occasionally crash.

Unfortunately, it seems to have caused more problems in that some users are reporting that when opening iTunes it simply crashes immediately now and refuses to open.

Some users report receiving the following Problem Report: “iTunes cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure iTunes works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.”

One way that might fix the problem is to download iTunes fresh from Apple rather than through the iTunes update service. By doing a fresh install, this has fixed some of the problems for some reason.

For now we recommend just leaving the update for a few days unless you don’t mind possible problems from happening. It isn’t clear if this problem is widespread at the moment.
