200,000 Pre-orders on AT&T for iPhone 4S within 12 Hours

Within 12 hours of the iPhone 4S pre-orders opening, AT&T managed to get 200,000 orders of the new smartphone from Apple [AAPL].

AT&T has seen extraordinary demand for iPhone 4S with more than 200,000 preorders in the first 12 hours alone, the most successful iPhone launch we’ve ever had. It’s obvious customers like AT&T’s 4G network, which is the only one that lets their iPhone download twice as fast and talk and surf simultaneously.

It’s important to note here that 200,000 is literally just the AT&T network and doesn’t include those pre-ordered for other carriers or from anywhere else around the world which took orders last Friday.

The iPhone 4S went up for pre-order last Friday (7th October) and is scheduled to launch this coming Friday. Numbers from last year reveal that 600,000 total pre-orders were taken on all carriers on day one when the iPhone 4 went up for pre-order. Apple has also now revealed that over 1 million iPhone 4S smartphones were pre-ordered within the first 24 hours. Full details at Apple. To say the announcement was seen by many as underwhelming I’m sure Apple is impressed with the numbers.

For those who haven’t seen the iPhone 4S from Apple yet, it has the same retina display as came on the iPhone 4. It has the same design with a slight modification to the antenna. Other features include voice control via Siri, an 8 megapixel camera, a dual-core A5 processor as well as more RAM. A new 64GB model has also been launched this year.
