It seems like medical instruments used in Sci-fi are actually becoming a reality. Scientists at Tel Aviv university have managed to create a laser that can be controlled enough to seal up a wound to the skin. By using this new method they are more safely able to stitch up clients and let them on their way.
The laser used is meticulously controlled so that the heat is at just the right temperature to “weld” the skin back together. By using a laser to do this it allows the wound to be water tight, stronger and they have also found that scars are not as bad as traditional stitches.
Tests have already taken place in Israeli operating rooms and show that this technology could be used elsewhere. With in a few years time we could be using laser to weld us back together rather then a needle and thread like normal.
