Sony PlayStation Phone Release Date Hinted At March 2011

We have heard of a few release dates for the Sony PlayStation phone, one of which was this week (which isn’t correct) and another that says February.

We now hear that the PlayStation Phone release date will now be sometime in March 2011. The February date mentioned previously is apparently the unveiling date over at Mobile World Congress.

We also hear today that the phone will not fall under the Xperia name, but instead will be just called the Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone.

Reasons for dropping the Xperia out of the name seem to be related to branding of the PlayStation and not wanting to dilute the name a little. We won’t know for sure until the PlayStation Phone is released, but it kind of makes sense being called just the PlayStation Phone.

As for technical specs, the PlayStation Phone has a 3.7 inch touchscreen and is expected to be running the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS when it launches.

So I guess they’re going to have to scratch the words “Ericsson” off the top of that prototype in the picture before launch.
