Powermat Provides Wireless Charging

powermat Powermat Provides Wireless ChargingThe Powermat is a device that allows you to charge your mobile phones, mp3 players and what not by using wireless power. You simply drop your device on to a mat and it gets charged.

powermat case Powermat Provides Wireless ChargingThe reason the powermat has been created is that a number of people hate having a bunch of power cords dangling around the back of their desk. By using wireless it gets rid of a collection of these cables and just uses 1 cable to power the mat.

The powermat is also capable of transmitting data between devices by using the same system that charges them. No data transfer rates have been given yet, but it could be the perfect way of docking your mobile phone with your PC and I think it will take off if only they can get it right….

However, the system is not compatible with regular phones and you will need to purchase adapters for the back of your phone, or powermat cases. Powermat are working on allowing phones to come built in with this technology. I personally think that until they are capable of integrating this in to mobile phones seamlessly then it wont really take off. I’d much rather just have my standard Tytn II sit on a powermat rather then putting it in a special case to charge.

The powermat system is due to launch the last quarter of this year and will cost $100 for the mat and between $25 and $35 for the adapters.
