Google Branded Chrome OS Netbook

chromeos-netbookIt appears that Google [GOOG] are working with a company to actually build a Google branded netbook. Reasons for this are more than likely to be that they want to get a Chrome OS netbook running with the exact specifications that they want rather that what the manufacturers want.

As well as creating it’s own branded Chrome OS netbook, Google are also said to be working closely with companies such as Acer, ASUS, HP, Lenovo, Qualcomm, TO and Toshiba to name a few.

From what TechCrunch mention it seems that Google are aiming for next years holiday season to launch the netbook.

The Google Chrome OS Netbook will probably go on sale subsidised by phone carriers to bring the cost down to the consumer and from this we also expect it to have built in connectivity so you can browse the net where ever you are.

Right now, not many other features are known and only speculation on the processor has been made which TC believe Google will go for an ARM processor rather than an Intel Atom.

2010 is going to be one of the big years where a number of new hardware and OS solutions are being pushed. It will be certainly interesting to see where we are this time next year in terms of hardware and operating systems.

  1. This isn’t exactly news. Google announced that Google certified Chrome OS will come embedded in hardware products. These will be Google branded devices produced by their partners, presumably with a “Google Inside” sticker on it or something similar.
