May 12, 2008

david-chacon-universal-remote Universal Remote ConceptUniversal remote controls are not a new invention as they have been around before. Even the iPhone can be configured to control everything in your home. This one is still worthy of a mention though as it uses a large touch screen on the front of the device which is used to control most aspects of your home. Continue Reading

Dattoos - Concept DNA Based Technology

December 20, 2007

dattoo
The Dattoo is a DNA based personal technology that uses the skin of your body as an interface. Yep, it’s concept and one I don’t see coming out any time soon. It is designed by Hartmut Esslinger

To achieve absolute personal identification, the hardware would capture DNA from the user’s body, enabling direct participation in the political and cultural landscape. The technology would link remote users through engagement with their areas of interest…

Users view, test-drive, and select their product from a variety of options, both functional and aesthetic. They also set the life cycle of the product, to be utilized for a few hours or a much longer amount of time. Once users are satisfied with their specific configurations, they have this fully-functioning circuitry - including all UI-interactive and display functions - “printed” onto recommended areas of their skin. Energy would be pulled from the human body to run the programs. At the end of the day, users would simply wash the Dattoos off, beginning anew the following day.

The idea does seem a little crazy, but I guess it could have it’s uses such as quickly accessing information that you know you will definitely have attached to you (literally). Also IBM a few years back tested using living skin to transmit data across. This could mean you transfer music from a camera in your left hand to the PC you are touching with your right hand. I’d prefer to stick to BlueTooth.

It all sounds too freaky to me and I’d be scared to see a BSOD on my arm.

3 Unique iPod Docking Stations

November 28, 2007

Basketball Jam Box
iPod Docking Stations seem to be all over at the moment in a similar way to crazy USB gadgets. I came across 3 unique ones today which are both interesting and a little crazy. The first one pictured above is the High School Musical MP3 player dock which is shaped like a basketball and opens up to reveal a microphone, speakers and dock. I wouldn’t suggest bouncing it around.

Next is the iConcepts iPod dock which is built for the shower. A compartment opens up to reveal a place to dock your iPod or similar MP3 device. The enclosure is waterproof which protects your iPod from harm. If you forget the iPod then you also have the option to play radio which happens to be digital according to Gadgetizer where I came across the iConcepts device. It costs $40.

PS-Mi iPod Dock

Last on the list today is the PS-Mi iPod dock. This one is the more serious out of the three devices and features 3 drivers in the top section and a subwoofer to the side.

April 16, 2007

Jaty Leisure Navi-Phone
The Jaty Leisure Navi-Phone is currently concept at the moment and will be named the GPS-L2000. It has GPS functionality built in which accomodates for Sea, Mountain and car as well as having a number of POI built in. The screen is 3.2 inch LCD which is touch screen. USB for fast transfer of files is included and a mini SD card slot to allow the memory to be increased.

As well as having some cool GPS features the phone also is capable of playing MP3 music, has an electronic dictionary and DMB TV which is an optional extra.

It actually looks like a really cool phone although it seems like it might only be coming available in Korea.

Concept MP3 Watch

March 30, 2007

Concept MP3 Player
Nathan Davis has created the concept MP3 player watch which is a silicone band that you wear on your wrist. It features an OLED display under a layer polycarbonate. To listen to the music, you need no wires. This watch features bluetooth technology along with bluetooth headphones to send the audio wirelessly.

This is another cool watch design from Yanko Design that we would love to see hit the market. No doubt in the next year or few this type of watch will be readily available.
