Slan LED Watches

slanledwatches
Slan LED watches are simple but look great. They do the basic functions a watch should do ie. Tell the time and date. The displays are large and made from coloured LED’s which shine fairly bright. The back of the watches are stainless steel and the strap is leather. The watches can go around 165 feet under water and cost around $100 depending on the model you get.

Transformers Watches

Optimus Prime WatchLED Transformers Watch
With the release of Transformers the movie coming sometime soon, a range of Transformers watches have been revealed. Unfortunately the watches do not completely transform, but they do have a couple of cool selections for you to browse. The ones that I like are the Optimus Prime watch and the LED Transformers watch. Both look cool. No price has been set for the watches made by Seiko, but we do know they should be available in a couple of weeks on the 2nd June which will be in plenty of time for the release of the movie.

Cool but Geeky Watches

VoiceMaster
Geek watches are kind of cool and geeky at the same time. They tend to have extra functions such as calculators, radios, games, music or even pulse sensors on them. I have owned a few of them in my life too so when I come across watches like these its always good for a laugh. The watch above is the VoiceMaster which I honestly have no idea what its for. I am guessing that the SPEAK and arrow pointing to a little black area means you need to speak to it to record your voice for playback or something. Kind of funny to look back on but I can imagine it was cool at the time.

  • Ballistic Cyclone Watch Review

We recently received a Ballistic Cyclone watch to review from the guys over at Watches Shop to see if it was any good and what it’s all about.

In the email asking if we would do the review a comment was made saying… “Ballistic watches are unlike any other wrist watch available on the market – they are the strongest, toughest and most durable watches available in the world.”

The watch it’s self is built well and has a heavy feel to it. It is covered in gold plating and although not to my taste it still is done very well. On the right side of the watch, three buttons can be found. The top one is used to start the stop watch where a large red second hand ticks around when starting it. The same button also stops the stop watch. The bottom button is used to reset the second hand returning it back to zero. The middle button is used to set the time and has 3 positions that allow you to set the time and calibrate the second hand to zero after changing a battery. [Read more…]

Try a Watch on with Augmented Reality App

Over the last year or so we have seen more and more augmented reality applications that attempt to merge real and virtual worlds together. The latest augmented reality app is one that allows you to try on a watch.

The system works by printing out a paper watch with a “T” marking on it. When the 82MB application is downloaded and loaded up you simply wear the T marked paper watch and wave it in front of your webcam. You then just need to select the watch you want to virtually try on and it appears on your wrist.

The application is compatible with Windows and Mac and is available for download now over at Tissot. [Read more…]

    Bluetooth 4.0 Ready for Launch

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) have finally announced that Bluetooth 4.0 is ready to roll. The press release indicated that the new spec will be brought to market by the end of this quarter which gives them little over 2 months to get things together. This doesn’t mean devices will be ready by that time though, but that they can start building devices with the standard.

The new Bluetooth 4.0 technology steps right past 3.0 and improves energy efficiency allowing it to be a more desirable option in mobile devices.

“Bluetooth v4.0 throws open the doors to a host of new markets for Bluetooth manufacturers and products such as watches, remote controls, and a variety of medical and in-home sensors. Many of these products run on button-cell batteries that must last for years versus hours and will also benefit from the longer range enabled by this new version of the Bluetooth specification,” said Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director of the Bluetooth SIG.
