Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich Coming Oct or Nov

Google has “kind of” officially announced that Android Ice Cream Sandwich will be launching in October or November of this year. The current Gingerbread version has been around a while now and a new version will be welcomed. Eric Schmidt said the following:

Internet TV Explained and the Advantages

The term ‘Internet TV’ refers to a television service that is available online. Much like conventional television, it allows viewers to select what they want to watch from a directory of channels. Many major Internet TV web sites are available on an on-demand basis. Unlike conventional Digital or Satellite TV, on-demand Internet TV viewers aren’t limited to only what is currently being broadcast. Motorola Xoom 2 Tablet Details Leaked

Yesterday at PocketNow, some leaked pictures of various smartphones were released. Along with a few mentioned smartphones, details of a Motorola Xoom 2 were released. The Xoom is a honeycomb based tablet that launched earlier this year (pictured below).

The pictures appeared to be accidentally published online by Motorola but were removed shortly after.

Acer Iconia Dual-Screen Touchbook Shipping April

After a few months of seeing pictures of the Acer Iconia, we now hear it’s actually going to be shipping in the next few weeks.

The Iconia is a dual-screen Touchbook that allows users to work with two 14 inch touchscreens. When opened like a laptop, a virtual keyboard can be set on the lower screen while a regular OS running on the top screen.

The technical specs reveal that the device runs an Intel Core i5 chip. The operating system is Windows 7 and the screens are covered in Gorilla glass to make it extra strong. [Read more…]

Firefox 4 Release Date is March 22

Mozilla has announced that Firefox 4 will be officially launching on March 22. In a message posted on Google Groups, Damon Sicore, the Sr. Director of Platform Engineering at Mozilla Corporation, announced in a meeting held yesterday that the new version of the browser was ready and will be launching on that date.

Today’s triage session concluded with all systems go for a Firefox 4 launch on March 22nd. We will continue to have triage sessions on a daily basis to watch for major issues; however, at this point, we’ve concluded RC1 will become Firefox 4 final.

Warner Bros. Movie Rentals Coming to Facebook

Facebook will soon become a place where you can rent Warner Bros. movies. The first of which will be The Dark Knight when the services goes live.

To get the movie, all you need to do is visit the official Facebook page of Warner Bros. and once there, select the movie and click to apply Facebook credits. The cost will be $3 which is the equivalent of 30 credits. [Read more…]

Windows 1.0 Upgraded Right up to Windows 7 In Order

YouTube user TheRasteri decided to see what would happen if Windows 1.0 was installed and updated, one version at a time, all the way through to Windows 7. All major versions of the OS were included in the update process which means Windows ME was left out as you only had the option of Win 2K or Me but not both.

Windows 1.0 was first introduced in 1985 on November 20 and required that MS-DOS 5.0 be installed so that Windows could be installed within that. This is how the update procedure worked… DOS 5.0 and Windows 1.0. To check that all worked throughout the several upgrades, Doom 2 and Monkey Island were installed at the beginning and were tested throughout the install process. [Read more…]

iPad 2 Smart Covers Announced

Along with the launch of the iPad 2, Apple also unveiled the Smart Cover. The cover is different to a case in that it doesn’t wrap around the whole device. Instead, it uses magnets to attach on to the front of the device to keep the screen free from being knocked.

The magnets used are self aligning which means when you attach it, it always sits in the right place. The cover also controls switching the device on and off if needed. When you open the case, the screen enables. [Read more…]
