Motorola MILESTONE UK Version update to Android 2.1 Ready for Download

Good news for those of you in the UK who own a Motorola MILESTONE Android smartphone… Motorola has now released the Android 2.1 operating system that is available for install right now.

This update isn’t arriving OTA (over the air) at the moment, but it is downloadable from right here.

Requirements for the PC to download it are of course very low indicating you basically need a PC that works. Once you have that, make sure you have the right micro USB cable to attach the MILESTONE to your computer. There is some information to read about manually enabling your Google Account on your phone which is straight forwards and once the checklist is complete, the download will be ready for you to grab. MSI CX705MX 17.3 Inch Laptop Announced

MSI has added a new notebook computer to their classic series. This model is the MSI CX705MX that comes with a 17.3 inch screen that is powered by ATi Radeon HD 545V graphics. The screen is backlit by LED and has an aspect ratio of 16:9.

The notebook weighs less than 3Kg which isn’t the lightest notebook around, but for a device with a 17.3 inch screen it isn’t bad at all.

The laptop has a cross hatch design with a colour film print coating to protect it from scratches and general wear and tear. The keyboard on the CX705MX is a Chiclet style. [Read more…]

Intel LightPeak Demonstration – 10GB/s Connectivity

LightPeak is a technology being built by Intel that allows data to be transmitted at speeds up to 10GB/s over fibre optic connections.

A demo was recently run that showed a laptop sending a couple of HD streams over a LightPeak connection to a nearby HDTV. On the laptop side a USB adapter cable was used that paired the optical connections to a regular cable due to the lack of optical LightPeak ports on HDTVs.

By using a small 12mm square chip the device can convert electrical signals in to light pulses with current speeds reaching around 10GB/s although Intel intend to dramatically improve this over the coming years. 10GB/s refers to the simultaneous bi-directional transmission rate which is quite impressive. Apple iPad Bluetooth Keyboard from Brando

Brando has launched a slim Bluetooth keyboard that is compatible with the Apple iPad. The keyboard measures just 112x61x13mm and weighs 70g.

The keyboard is powered by a rechargeable battery and is recharged over a USB connection. The keyboard isn’t just for the Apple iPad and is actually compatible with a number of other devices which includes Symbian S60 devices, Mac OS, Windows Mobile devices and most versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system going back to Windows 2000. ASUS Eee 1005PR Arriving Soon

ASUS announced that the ASUS Eee PC 1005PR netbook is now available to buy from authorised resellers.

The ASUS 1005PR is a 10.1 inch netbook that has a battery life of 11 hours. It runs an Intel Atom N450 processor running at 1.66GHz. The 10.1 inch screen has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and is backlit by LED. Intel UMA graphics along with a Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator provide the power to run the graphics.

Memory wise it comes standard with 1GB of DDR2 memory and that can be increased to 2GB if required. For storage it has a 250GB hard drive that spins at 5400RPM and ASUS also provide up to 500GB of online storage for you to use if needed. [Read more…]

Nokia N8 32GB Could be Launched, QWERTY Keyoard?

The Nokia N8 has received a bit of coverage here on gadgetvenue over the last few weeks. We are now hearing that there could be a 32GB version of the N8 launching. Originally just a 16GB model was announced although there is no official information on the larger storage model.

The 32GB information comes from a review unit that SaudiMac managed to test that showed 32GB printed on the box. This shot has now been taken down though.

Next up is the USB port that is capable of connecting to a card reader or portable hard drive which is a handy inclusion. When a drive or memory card is attached via the USB cable, the file manager app automatically opens up. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Coming to Vodafone Soon

In the May edition of the Vodafone magazine a picture of the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini can be found indicating that it will be launching soon on that network. This is just the X10 Mini though and there is no mention of the X10 Mini Pro this time around.

A quick re-cap on what’s included in the X10 Mini show that it has a 5 megapixel camera. It runs the Android operating system. The X10 Mini has no QWERTY keyboard like the Mini Pro does, but other than that it’s essentially the same phone. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone Wi-Fi Syncs Unofficially

Some iPhone and iPod Touch users want the ability to use Wi-Fi to sync to their iTunes library. Right now there is no official way to do this and the only way to sync is by using the regular 30 pin connector via USB.

The video below shows an application loading up that allows the iPhone to do just that… sync to a computer wirelessly. From what we understand in the YouTube description, the application will be launched soon on the Apple app store which indicates it probably won’t require rooting your device. [Read more…]

Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit Unboxed

The Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit is now being delivered. Jerrod H decided to post a few unboxing pictures to show exactly what’s in the box and what you can expect to be using the kit for.

The Camera Connection Kit comes with a paor of dongles that convert the 30 pin dock connector in to a USB connection. One of the dongles is home to an SD card reader while the other is a USB adapter allowing you to connect your camera up to the iPad.

Although USB is opened up on the iPad, it still is restricted to do exactly what it says in that you can transfer pictures from either an SD card or from a camera direct. [Read more…]

ASUS EeePad to Launch July

Digitimes are reporting today that the ASUS EeePad is to be announced at Computex 2010 that will be running between June 1 and 5. What we are also hearing is that the EeePad could launch as early as July this year.

The ASUS EeePad has been described as a challenge to the Apple iPad by bringing features such as a webcam, USB ports as well as Adobe flash.

As for the impact of tablet PC, Shih expects the device reduce overall netbook demand by 10-2%. The company is also monitoring the tablet PC and e-book reader markets closely to prevent related products stepping into each other’s demand and will maintain flexibility to launch products that suit the fast-changing market demand.

Pebble Portable Charger can charge iPhone four times over

The Pebble Portable Charger is capable of charging several devices. Inside it has a 5000mAh battery that allows phones such as the iPhone 3G to be recharged four times over before needing to be recharged it’s self.

The device can be used for emergency battery charging and due to it’s small size, it fits comfortably in a bag or case while you are on travels.

Fujifilm HDP-L1 3D Camera Media Player

Last July, we wrote about the Fufifilm W1 3D camera that had two lenses allowing 3D images and movies to be captured. Fujifilm have now introduced the HDP-L1 that acts as a media player for your W1 3D content.

The device connects up to your TV where you then plug in a memory card from the W1 3D camera and it lets the 3D material be played on screen.

As well as being capable of being connected to a TV the HDP-L1 also has a USB port to connect it to a Mac or Windows computer. The player can also display 2D content if needed. [Read more…]
