MSI WindPad 100 Unveiled at Computex 2010

Computex opened up today and as we expected, a number of new tablets were on show. We already covered the new ASUS Eee Pad that will be launching Q1 next year. This next one is the MSI WindPad 100. This Tablet runs Windows 7 and has a 10 inch screen.

The tablet is powered by an Intel Atom Z530 processor that runs at 1.66GHz, it has 2GB of RAM and has 32GB of storage on an SSD.

The WindPad 100 uses Windows 7 Home Premium although MSI has made a number of customisations that bring the Wind Touch UI layer to the device making it more tablet friendly, well that’s the plan if anything. [Read more…]

Nook Wi-Fi Only Passes through FCC

It appears that a new version of the Barnes & Noble Nook might be launching. The new version appears to just have a WiFi connection rather than a WiFi+3G connection in the regular version.

The Nook has an FCC ID of BNRZ100 with a description that says “EBOOK, WLAN, AND USB PORTS WITHOUT WWAN.”.

WWAN is referring to a cellular connection here, hence the lack of 3G. [Read more…]

T-Mobile G1 gets Android 2.2 Froyo Alpha Release

For those who are daring with their Android smartphones, you can now get a working Alpha launch of Android 2.2 for the T-Mobile G1 / Dream, Magic / Sapphire.

The build comes courtesy of Cyanogen, Chiefzreloaded, Zenulator (XDA), ts0cha0tik, punkkaos and Azuske who have worked on the G1 port since the ROM was available for download.

With the build being alpha, there’s obviously some things that do not work just yet. The list of things that do work includes calls, 3G, LEDs, call audio, gapps and the notification bar. [Read more…]

LaCie Rugged Biometric Fingerprint Safe External Drive Announced

LaCie has created a new rugged portable storage hard drive that adds not only ruggedness on the outside, but increased data security. The new drive has a biometric fingerprint scanner built in. To access the data on the drive the user needs to swipe a finger. If the fingerprint matches, access is allowed. If not, the data stays encrypted.

The encryption used on the rugged hard drive is 128-bit AES hardware based encryption that uses the finger print reader to decrypt the data.

The physical side of things show that the drive uses a military grade shock proof enclosure to allow the unit to take a bit of a beating while still preserving the data safely. LG Bali GM360, LG GX300 and the LG Pure GD550 Appear on LG Site

We have seen the LG Bali GM360, LG GX300 and the LG Pure GD550 previously in a number of leaks. Today, these three smartphones became more official by appearing on the LG site.

LG Bali GM360

First up is the LG Bali GM360 smartphone. Rumours mentioned that it was a dual-SIM phone. This is not the case. The phone on the connectivity side of things is a 2.5G handset capable of connecting to GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks with GPRS and EDGE connectivity. The smartphone uses LG’s own propriety operating system.

The screen on this device measures 3 inches and has a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and can display 262K colours. It is also a touchscreen. The camera on the back can capture images at 5 megapixels and the phone also has 2X digital zoom. For storage a microSD memory card can be used. Wireless and Bluetooth is built in along with an FM radio. [Read more…]

HTC EVO 4G Docking Station

The HTC EVO 4G Docking Station has been spotted in a Best Buy magazine. It appears that the dock will be available for Sprint EVO 4G users at the time of launch next week.

The dock has two connections built in. One is for powering the device and connecting it to a computer via micro USB. The second is a HDMI output allowing you to make a connection to your HDTV from the dock.

The HTC EVO 4G uses a new HDMI standard numbered 1.4 that allows for the new micro HDMI connection. [Read more…]

MSI Slatebook Details Arrive

MSI has released a few details of the MSI Slatebook that is due to launch next month at Computex.

The Slatebook will use an Intel Atom processor (possibly the Z series) and have a 10 inch screen. The operating system MSI is installing will be a version of Windows 7.

For connectivity the Slatebook will have WiFi and 3G allowing you to connect up in most places. Also, MSI say the device will have a battery life of 8 hours making it almost as competitive as the Apple iPad that is capable of 10 hours on a single charge. [Read more…]

Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive

Seagate has announced the launch of the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive. The Momentus XT combines a mixture of a regular hard drive and SSD storage to create a fast hybrid storage solution.

The system uses what Seagate call Adaptive Memory technology that allows the drive to deliver SSD performance. The SSD chips can hold 4GB of data which is filled by the more commonly used files such as operating system files, programs and data. By moving them to SSD it allows fast access. As your computer usage changes the technology adapts and moves the new files to the SSD portion of the drive.

The Momentus XT can be used in regular laptops and the drive system runs completely separate to the drivers making it far easier to integrate with a system. [Read more…]

iPhone Internet Tethering made possible in iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 4 Launch

Apple [AAPL] has launched the latest beta for iPhone OS 4.0 which brings it one step closer to being launched for the iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4G when available.

One of the features found by users indicates that we might finally see internet tethering on the iPhone. The settings screens pictured above (and larger below) show the network settings page with a control for Internet Tethering over Bluetooth or USB. When selecting this option a screen is presented asking you to enable the account via a phone number or a website. [Read more…]

EB710 Colour eBook Reader

The EB710 is a colour eBook reader that features a 7 inch TFT colour screen that is capable of displaying 800 x 480 pixels.

The manufacturer is believed to be NSECO who I don’t believe I have heard of before. Either way, the device looks quite interesting and certainly has a unique user interface from looking at the picture above.

As well as being able to read ebooks on the device, MP3 and video playback is possible. A USB 2.0 connector can be found on the device although there is no mention of wireless of 3G connectivity in the specifications. [Read more…]

Dell Inspiron M501R AMD Phenom II X4 Laptop Announced

Dell has launched a new laptop called the Dell Inspiron M501R. This laptop is powered by an AMD Phenom II X4 processor making it quite powerful in terms of processing power.

Other features include the choice between a HD 550v graphics card or a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. The screen measures 15.6 inches and has a HD screen with a 720p resolution.

For connectivity the Dell M501R has WiFi 802.11n as well as Bluetooth and wired LAN. Around the edges three USB 2.0 ports can be found along with eSATA/USB and a 7 in 1 media card reader. Both a VGA and HDMI output are also to be found on this laptop. [Read more…]

Google Android 2.2 Froyo Could Launch this Week – Flash Enabled Sites Highlighted

This week we expect that Google [GOOG] will officially announce and perhaps release Android 2.2. When launched, it will be available for the Nexus One, DROID and HTC Evo 4G off the starting blocks and of course, other devices will follow over the coming months.

Google hasn’t released a list of what will be included just yet although a number of leaks and information found on other sites such as Adobe has indicated that Flash 10.1 will be built in to the Froyo build. In regards to flash we also hear that when a 2.2 updgrade is complete the Flash 10.1 feature will be highlighted by Google along with a list of sites that will function correctly (as pictured above). Of course the list isn’t limited to what you see above as Adobe has just highlighted some of the best and most popular sites.

Other features believed to be included are the ability to create a WiFi hotspot with your Android phone along with USB and wireless tethering. [Read more…]
