USB Memory Bomb

usb_memory_bombThe USB Memory Bomb isn’t the most convenient of shapes and might not fit too well in your wallet or pocket, but it certain to get a few people looking at it on your desk.

The Memory Bomb is designed by Joel Escalona from Mexico City and looks quite menacing in a cartoon type of way. Currently it is just a prototype and will probably feature a way to put your flash drive inside it or have the possibility to squeeze a hard drive in there.

If the price is right I can see my desk having one of these placed on it.

Belkin USB Hub for your Desk

belkin-grommet-usb-hub-promoThe Belkin USB hub is one of those brilliant designs that you wonder why it hasn’t been thought of before. The USB hub is shaped to fit perfectly in to an office desk grommet hole which can be found towards each back corner of most desks. A lot of gadgets these days require a USB port and this gadget provides just what you need for easy access with out the hassle of another couple of cables getting in the way on your desk. A few different sizes are available to fix the correct type of desk, so before you order make sure you check out your desk.

The USB Hub comes with a small power supply which attaches under the desk along side the USB cable that connects the hub to your PC. By having it’s own power source, it allows the USB hub to power more demanding devices.

What if you do not have a grommet hole? The option here is to get a drill and make your own. Just be careful with a drill though!

USB Desktop Dunk

USB_Desktop_Dunk
Desktop Dunk is another perfect game for the boring office worker. The game comes with 4 mini basket balls, a scoreboard and even sound effects. It connects up to your PC or mac via USB and has 2 game variations to play. The first type is the practice game to get you in to shape and the second is competition so you can play with a few office workers who are also bored.

All these USB games, toys, ovens and fans make you wonder if the original designer of the protocol ever thought it would become this popular. I am sure he intended it for a quick way to attach just a standard mouse to your PC. I say keep bringing on these cool games!

The USB Desktop Dunk costs $25 from Firebox.

USB Powerstick Mobile Charger

USB_PowerstickFor the regular mobile gadget user, power is an essential part of your life. Every day the average gadget users carries around a mobile phone, possibly a pocket PC and even a portable gaming system. Power outlets on the wall are not always available and this is where a USB Powerstick can help. The powerstick has a 750mAh capacity and uses USB to charge it self up. Charging to 90% capacity takes just 90 minutes and the powerstick can then be used to charge your mobile devices. It uses a lithium polymer battery which was chosen for a few reasons. First, they are more compact then the more traditional lithium-ion battery’s and also, they are less volatile and less likely to go up in flames which is always a good thing considering it could spend a good deal of time in your pocket.

A small LCD meter is provided on the top of the powerstick which shows how much charge it is holding. This is handy in that you can get a quick glimpse of how your backup battery is doing. With the powerstick being USB it allows it to be charged not only via a laptop or PC, but by the growing number of places such as air plane seats and cars which are now making available USB connectors.

Once the powerstick is charged it’s self, you can then select the appropriate tip to connect it to your mobile device and let it charge away. The charger acts just like a wall charger in that you can still use your phone while charging it with a USB powerstick.

More details can be found over at Powerstick.com where the powerstick is available with 9 tips for $69.95.

Mini USB Digital Camera with no LCD

USB-Digital-Camera
This concept mini digital camera tries to take photography back a few years, but bring it to now at the same time. It is a small USB flash drive with a camera built in and it just has 1 button. There is no LCD on the back and there is no view finder. The whole purpose of the camera is to just have you point, shoot and then have to wait till you are back at your PC to see the results which is just like the waiting time to get pictures developed.

It’s not the best idea I have come across, but I can see it as doing quite well should it become available. If the cameras are cheap enough (< $10) then they would make ideal little cameras to take around while out and about so you can snap away, but not worry about it getting damaged. Shinhan USB Credit Card

USB Credit Card
A new credit card was revealed a few days ago. However, it’s not your average sort of credit card. It is a USB credit card which works as a contactless card in stores. When shopping online the card has to be inserted in to your USB port to authorise the transaction. By having the device (which is encrypted) enter all your details, there is no chance that a keylogger could capture what you are typing. It uses an IC chip to function and all programs needed to securely communicate with authorisation devices are included in there too. You currently cannot write to the memory to keep it secure.
